    You've had your answer, but just so you know where it's come from...
    DRAFT GENERAL CREDIT CARD CONDITIONS

    11. REWARD PAYMENT

    11.1 - If you meet the requirements set out in condition 11.2, then for any statement period in which you:-

    (a) make at least £300 of Purchases (once any Purchases refunded in that period have been deducted);
    (b) stay within your credit limit; and
    (c) make your minimum monthly payment;

    you will qualify for a £5 credit to your account in the following month. The credit will not be treated as a payment to your account under these conditions.

    Apart from the 'small print' in the T&C's shown/linked by YorkshireBoy... where do the Halifax promote the cashback on the Clarity card?

    I can't find a mention of it, even in the link to the card off the Cashback Credit Cards article

    (i.e. this one)

    ???

    They don't to the best of my knowledge. For some bizarre reason they stopped advertising it ages (years?) ago. You used to be able to specifically apply for a Reward Clarity card but they stopped that and just got you to apply for a normal one and the reward is dealt with behind the scenes.

    The only thing I can come up with is one part of the bank decided to stop the promotion but didn't effectively communicate it to the part that deals with it!

    It is promoted in branches...certainly I've seen posters up in my local branch.

    Their website used to inform you to visit branch if you wanted the Reward variant, but even that FAQ/common enquiry was pulled a while ago.

    Some card offers (in general, not just Halifax) are promoted as 'online only', so this is the flip side, ie branch only! (although I understand you may be able to 'upgrade' via phone these days).

    Ah right, thanks.

    I have held a Clarity card for a few years now (specifically for spending abroad) and also have a Reward current account - is it safe to assume the card I have will provide the cashback if the conditions are met, or do they come in different 'flavours' ?

    I wouldn't "assume" anything, especially if I had a card paying more than 1.6% cashback I could use instead.

    I'd be on the phone to them and asking. If you get the answer you want, don't forget to take a name!

    Yes you're right, I should phone... but praps not on a Sunday evening!

    Assuming it is just the one 'flavour' of Clarity card though, having just re-read their T&C's....
    11.2 - To be eligible for the reward set out in condition 11.1, you must, at the time you enter into this agreement:-

    (a) hold a Halifax current account and pay in £1,000 or more each month;
    (b) use our switching service to move your current account to a Halifax Current Account and agree to pay in £1,000 or more each month;
    (c) open or hold a Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account.

    ... and noticed there isn't an 'OR' between any of those statements?

    Surely you don't need to meet all 3 of those criteria as if so then I wouldn't get it anyway - never used their switching service, if it even existed when the accounts were opened!

    It's an inferred 'or' (or they forgot to add the word "either" after the word "agreement"). It's impossible to meet all 3 criteria with just the one account...note the capitalisation of the account name in (b). ;)
