The course cost £2,500 (which is supposed to tell you how you need only $100 to invest.). If it was £100, I would cut my losses and put it up to experience. 2.5k is a bit harder to let go. The company is based in Peterborough but does trade in the US, thus the $. I did do a scam search on him beforehand but nothing came up. There are people making this work but they have invested a whole lot more than £100.

Have you checked they are actually registered in the UK and that the address isn't that of a virtual office (now the go to for scammers to give them a air of legitmacy).

Is it a pyramid type scheme? Or claiming to they're able to help in winning in games of chance (ie gambling)?

If so, their practices are banned in the UK (and throughout the EU too I believe).

Thank you Johnnytwostep et al for your "kind" comments. The only scam part of this is that they never mentioned the additional money you would need to invest. There are many people making this process work albeit by investing the additional funds - there is a Facebook group where they exchange ideas and ask advice. I am very clear that this is not totally a scam, or illegal as they have a legitimate business office in Peterborough, which I have actually been to. My query here was simply to find out if by law I might have a case for small claims if they refuse a refund due to them not having mentioned at time of purchase the additional funds needed.

Hmm, at first you were told it was $100 then it was £2,500 and you didn't question it at all or get a contract or anything in writing.

I am very very sorry but it sounds like they saw you coming.

If there is nothing in writing saying what you were paying for or you didn't have or can't obtain a recording (audio) of their claims, then I am afraid you have no way or making a successful claim.

I'm sorry but paying out such a large sum of money with no written proof of what you would get in return is not really very sensible.

Did you pay via a card? That might be your only chance of getting the money back. If they wouldn't accept money via a debit or credit card (with chargeback rights) then again, I would have walked. It would mark them out as non legit to me. Sorry.

Otherwise I'm afraid its Trading Standards. They will surely be interested.
