Virgin Media contract

Hello, I took a contract out with virgin media mobile for a iphone 6 plus, My contract is £57 a month of which part of that money is towards the cost of the phone. I have phoned virgin media and twice been told that the price I am paying towards the phone is £37 and £20 on the contract. I have an invoice for the phone which states the cost of the phone is £629.99, if I multiply 37 by 24 months the phone is costing me £888. I have been in contact with virgin media today the 2nd of February 2016, and the person I spoke to said they cant give me a breakdown of the costs ie how much the line rental is and how much is going towards the phone any advice would be great thank you

Forget it and next time don't enter into a contract unless 1) you undertsand it and 2) it's the best value/way of doing it for what you want.
  • I knew what I was entering into, but at no point did they give me a breakdown on what the phone was costing a month, mobile phone companies are charging for the phones because of people selling them and not paying the contract, I just wanted them to tell me how much I was paying for the phone and how much the line rental was. They brought out freestyle which tells you what you are paying for the phone and what you are paying for the line rental 1 month after I got my phone.

What difference does this make? If you terminate the contract early you pay the full price regardless - including both 'for the phone' and the 'line rental'.

Absolutely. As your contract isn't 'freestile', the only way to guess how much you are paying for the phone is to subtract the cost of a sim-only contract for the the same airtime (if it existed when you bought your contract).

I'm trying to use the Wayback Archive at the moment.

Hasn't cached a lot of the pages however it appears you'd be on their VIP Tariff.

Am guessing it's the 16GB variant you "purchased"? You'll have likely paid an upfront cost too.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
  • Yes I am on the VIP package and it is the 16gb iphone plus and I paid a upfront fee off £69.99, I would have thought that they could work out what the phone is costing me, the VIP package does not exist anymore so cant do a comparison

Although Apple charged £619 for the SIM-Free iPhone 6 Plus when it launched in September 2014 we'll work on Virgin Mobile's figures:

24 months at £57/month equates to £1,368. Minus Virgin's invoice for the handset and you're left with £807.01 which works out at £33.62 for the airtime agreement.

I *think* I've worked it out right!

  • my invoice is £629.99 for the phone and £69.99 upfront fee so the phone cost almost £700
