Gas 2.819p
Electricity 10.395p

Fixed for TWO YEARS!

But watch out for the

"Fixed Price Energy January 2018 Online"

which is hundreds more because it

"Includes Linked HomeComfort Premium Care"

The electricity is cheaper than the Scottish Power November 2016 ONE YEAR FIX I'm on!

Just waiting to see what the MSE Collective switch is like.

Some interesting action coming up in the energy market.

No exit penalty either. So if the one year fixes get cheaper, I could hop back.

Yes, it is an odd move by Scottish Power.

They have, for the last two years released a new cheaper (or the same price) tariff fixed for one year to the month.

I am on the online fixed price Jan 2017, expecting to see a much cheaper online fixed price Feb 2017 becoming available.....but not....instead some random move with a more expensive longer fix.

Who knows...maybe they have a big drop in the pipeline...

I am actually considering an Eon/EDF split if they do not bring something out soon!

I am on march 16 fixed online and have jumped on SP fixers a few times. I am waiting olso to see what MSE comes up with today. Did not take up the Jan 17 price as i use more elect than gas and this for the first time from SP was more me. I did not see that there are 2 offers so i will check that out. Thank's for that Pincher.

Just seen SP in last 2 hrs have announced gas reduction of £32 a year, from march 15. No mention of elect which would not be good for me. I will have to work out my next move at end of day.

MSE is reporting gas is reduced by 5.4% and in common with the 2 other suppliers who have already done similar, there is no change to electricity.

Consequently MSE advice remains as per the previous 2 suppliers, i.e. to ditch & switch.

Use a comparison site to find the best deal for you.
(But as you say, worth waiting a few hours to see what the MSE Big Switch may come up with too ... assuming you registered)
    :)

Consider separate suppliers for gas & electricity - that often saves money too.

Remember that the big players buy forward up to 2 years, so they know exactly what they can afford to sell a two year fix at to make the required margin. And they know that 70% of their customers will still be on Standard tariff regardless, so it's not as if their entire customer base will migrate to the cheap fix. Be grateful, they subsidise us tarts...

I've hopped over to this tariff too today, (from Scottish Power's July 16 tariff) standing charge the same and the peak and off peak kwh are marginally cheaper than existing tariff. This way can ensure on relatively decent rates for just under two years (as elec only property) and as they do not charge exit fees can jump earlier if lower tariffs are available.

Looking at the cheap energy club prices for me, the eon collective saved me the same a as moving to this tariff month so not worth moving over from s.p and only one other cheaper option listed has exit fees (and again only saves £1 a month compared to the new Help Beat Cancer January 18 tariff from sp).

I believe companies are allowed to have up to 4 public tariffs. At the moment Scottish Power have only 3, without a one year fix.

Why hold off? It was World Cancer Day on the 4th, so are they letting the Help Cancer tariff take the headlines for now?

So true, they certainly are not the best and i have had a few issues with them (nothing major thankfully!) that said the tariff is good so hopefully I will be able to leave it alone - less changes is less chance they can muck it up!.

That said to be on the safe side i submit very regular meter readings (fortnightly) to make sure i am on track. I print off and save an electronic copy of every bill (as i don't trust them to always be available)

and even sadder :rotfl: I have set up a spreadsheet calculating myself the bills/cost so that i can compare to ensure that the bill is correct. So far they all have been correct within a penny of my spreadsheets estimation (which can easily be explained by rounding up/down of the figures etc)

that way i can would be more likely to pick up errors earlier than later, and have a copy of all billing in case they magically "loose" them.

tbh the spreadsheet also helps in other ways too (set it also to confirm % of eco hours vs normal hours to check that eco 7 is still working for me, and exact kwh used over the period so i don't have to go back through old bills down the line for comparisons).

  • Its worth REM that people looking at a change will have been informed about a month ago whereas most will have an Tariff End Date of 31st March 2016. Don't jump early or late SP might release a~n~other tariff just before your revert to 'standard' tariff fees - so pay attention in the last two weeks of your Tariff End Date.
