There's plenty of wood in a house that can't be seen without ripping other bits off first. There's nothing wrong with capping.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

How is that relevant to fascia made of wood in poor repair?

So you would cap over poor state wood?

Who said anything about capping wood in a poor state, obviously if that was the case either the wood needs replacing or removing and UPVC fitting, but there is nothing wrong with capping wood providing it is sound and in good condition.

I recommended against capping if the wood was in poor condition, if you read the thread properly you will see that with your own eyes

I also said that i wouldnt cap over good wood , due to not being able to see what damage could be occurring over time , thats my opinion , and a valid one i think

    Some good info here: http://www.fixmyroof.co.uk/videos-and-guides/new-fascias-soffits/cap-over-or-replace-fascia/

All the same I'd much rather have the wood painted, with rotten parts cut out and replaced first of course. It looks better and avoids all the problems of shoddy fitters.

I capped my garage fascia quite happily , but its separate from the house , and single story so i can keep a better , closer eye on it over time , plus i attended to any dodgy bits of wood first

You may have recommended it earlier in the thread but my reply was to your question in this post, nothing to do with reading the thread or your previous posts properly.

Why are you quoting me , asking another poster a question?!

    Are you very bored?

Oh dear, sorry I interrupted your private posts that only the person you are replying to is allowed to answer and no one else is allowed to respond to, this is an open forum that others are allowed to answer posters questions in, don't ask them if you cannot accept polite answers or debate from other posters.

Dude, honestly, I know you think you know stuff and you want to help and I'm sure you have helped a great deal of people on here but I'd just stick to what you know.

As a roofing surveyor and an ex fascia and soffit installer I could write a 2000 word essay to help you understand the implications of capping over the wood, even if it's brand spanking new, but I really don't have the time.

    Happy new year :)
