No knowledge of credit history, help

Hello can anyone advise please. My father is retired and applied for a SAGA credit card to use abroad. SAGA has come back to him stating that they have no knowledge of him?! They have asked him for further information including 6 months of bank statements. Obviously he is reluctant to produce all this personal information and is confused as to why they cannot find his credit history. I must mention here that he is a SAGA shareholder!! My father owns his own home outright, has 2 credit cards, a bank account etc. All very confusing. He doesn't wish to pursue this application now (due to the aforementioned) but is concerned that if he doesn't this may be recorded and damage his credit rating (which SAGA cannot find!) in the future, as it may look as if he has been rejected. Would very much appreciate some sound advice here to pass on to my dad, thank you

It will just show an application search, but will not show whether accepted or rejected. They never do.
May be worth asking SAGA which CRA they are checking, if they will divulge that?
If you father has had his current account foe a long time, it might have been opened before banks routinely reported them to CRAs. Cards and other things may not be being reported to the CRA they checked.
I assume he has not moved in the last few years?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi, thank you for your reply. My dad has had the same bank account for 50 years, both credit cards were issued by the same bank but via Avios. He has lived at his present home for 4 or 5 years.
He can't remember the CRA they told him but it is not Equifax, Experian or Callcredit.
Can I just ask you to clarify, if my dad doesn't pursue this application further, it definitely won't affect his credit history? He would then apply for a different card, would that cause him problems applying straight away?
Regarding the bank account and current credit cards, can you advise what he should do please?
Many thanks0 -
Is your dad on the electoral roll?
I would advise your dad to check his reports for free at Noddle (Call Credit) and ClearScore (Equifax) before making any further applications.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Hi, yes he is definitely on the electoral roll. Thanks I will suggest that to him.
I wonder if any other retired people come across this problem when applying for a SAGA credit card to use abroad?
I cannot understand how SAGA cannot find any credit history for my dad . . .0 -
