Mattress Delivery Date Chnaged - Advice Please

Hi
I'm wondering if anyone can help please.
We had arranged for a new mattress to be delivered, having to take a day off work for the delivery as they not deliver at the weekends.
However, on the day of the expected delivery I receive a voice mail telling me that the delivery was no longer taking place due to supplier issues. The voicemail then gave me the wrong number for customer services. So far im not impressed with this supplier.
As it stand we have a new delivery date but we are after some compensation as we will nee dto take a day off work unpaid as we no longer have any Annual Leave left.
Is this likely as they have said they can only talk compensation once the new mattress has arrived? If so, would this effects my rights at all? I fear that once ive had the delivery that I wont have a leg to stand on.
I`m quite happy to cancel the order and go elsewhere if need be.
Thanks

Okay, that link is great, I suppose my main question now relates to the supplier as they say compensation cannot be agreed until the goods have arrived and you are happy with them.
Am I at a disadvantage in claiming compensation if the goods have arrived on a new date - is it better not to agree to compensation before the new delivery date?Scoops

You'll need to mitigate your losses. Two people don't need to take a day off work to accept delivery of the bed.
How much compensation are you after?0 -
You will have read in that article that you have not yet suffered a loss - you had planned to take the day of the failed delivery of anyway.Okay, that link is great, I suppose my main question now relates to the supplier as they say compensation cannot be agreed until the goods have arrived and you are happy with them.

You will have only suffered a loss when you take the second day off.
As mentioned above, you are duty bound to keep your losses to a minimum, so can you ask the delivery people, or the seller, for a shorter delivery window - say a couple of hours first thing in the morning - so that you can go to work afterwards?
Of course that may not be possible for you, but just throwing out ideas.0 -
I'm not after a lot - just the loss of one days wages (About £110) which according to what I have read seems a reasonable request which on is about 11% of the overall cost of the goods we have ordered.
However, the supplier involved wont discuss compensation until the delivery has arrived and I was concerned that would weaker my position?
I could just as easily cancel and go elsewhere - who would deliver on the Saturday (which is what I should have done from the start).

£110 for staying at home to accept a delivery of something you've ordered?
I'd cancel if I were you and buy somewhere else.0 -
Please don't take this the wrong way but was that sarcasm?
I don't see why I should lose a days leave due to there error?
I need to ring them this afternoon to discuss so any advice would be welcome.Scoops

You have answered your own question. Cancel with them and reorder with a company that will delivery on saturday. Out of interest, why did you not do this in the first place?I could just as easily cancel and go elsewhere - who would deliver on the Saturday (which is what I should have done from the start).

Just as the company was a bit cheaper and I don't mind taking one day off for a delivery but as they didn't tell me until the day to was due to arrive I have wasted a days holiday and will have to rebook one.Scoops
