The finance was only paid off in 2013, surely records from only 3 years ago don't just get shredded?
If the firm is no longer trading, then their individual customer records may well just have been destroyed. You can, of course, approach the parent company and pay them £10 for a Subject Access Request. That should set your mind at rest one way or the other.

If your finance was still being paid only three years ago, why don't you know if you had PPI?

Because the contract was signed back in 2008, and it was just a direct debit that left my account every month then eventually didn't. Followed by a junk load of phone calls trying to get me to finance another car threw them.
Oh, and i used to get a statement once a year. But i don't recall it saying anything about PPI
