PPI advice for a newbi...?

Hi everyone

Forgive me if similar has been asked a million times!

I have finally decided to succumb to everything I keep hearing about PPI andclaiming it back.
I honestly have no idea if I am owed anything, but I am interested in findingout.
To date I have had 2 cars on finance, one loan and a computer on finance.

The problem is, I have the details for one of the cars still, that is fromabout 8 years ago. But the others are all around the 10+ years ago ish. I knowthe loan and other car were threw black horse finance, but I don’t have any ofthe details anymore, I can’t even remember the address I would have been livingat as I moved around quite a bit back then.
And as for the computer, well I haven’t a clue about that at all.

While obviously I would prefer to claim myself and not have to pay anyone fees, would it be possible to claim for loans/finance going back so far. And if so,how?
Or, would I be better off finding a legitimate company who will do the leg workfor me?

Many thanks

Jonathan

They will phone you, ask you who you had PPI with and sell you a stamp in return for 30-40% of any claim.

You may find stamps for sale cheaper at a local retail outlet.

You are not owed anything. That isnt how it works. You make a complaint giving your reasons and they consider your complaint.

Your details are not in the public domain and a claims company cannot magic that information up. They need you to tell them.

Anything sold pre-2005 (such as the car finance / computer finance) will probably be pre-regulation and the dealer / shop will be able to reject it assuming it wasn't a loan from a bank

Ring up and ask is the best way but be aware that DPA rules say financial data should be destroyed when no longer needed - typically 6 years after the finance is complete so if they and you have no records your complaint won't get anywhere.

A CMC will just take the approach of writing a list of fictitious complaint reasons and send them to everyone and hope some stick

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Thanks, that's something I can work with.
The one from my more recent car threw the funding corporation / ACF is recent enough and I still have paperwork on it so maybe I'll just concentrate on that one.
Though with a little help from google it seems the funding corporation can be a bit of an !!! to work with...

You have to start with the people who sold it (dealership unless you had finance direct) and let them have the first look before you can approach the people who did the finance, saves hassle down the line to jump through their hoops

    Ahh ok, that makes sense.
I'm guessing the first step is to find what I have left of the paperwork and see if it says anything about PPI and if I paid it.
And if I can't find anything, contact them to see if I did?
  • First hurdle reached....

Upon looking for the old paperwork, turns out i don't have it after all! I must have chucked it on my last clear out.
But i know the car was purchased from ACF car finance, and financed threw the the funding cooperation. And that i bought it in January 2008.
I also just found out after a quick google that ACF car finance has been closed down.

Any ideas what my next step should be?

    Ta Muchly

With no documentary proof and no one to complain to there really is no place to go. There is very unlikely to be any records kept from a business which no longer trades. and you state that you don't even know if you had PPi!

I believe ACF was owned by The funding corporation, i think...
The finance was only paid off in 2013, surely records from only 3 years ago don't just get shredded?

There is some irony here I'm sure :rotfl:
