I planned to be careful but I didn't do everything I should have and missed a few things that's why I'm so upset with myself. I guess I'll have to put it down to experience and sort out the problems or sell it on. It's a auto 2 litre TFSI, would your advice apply to mine too? as I know FSI is different?

Research the gearbox and engine and make your own mind if you want to keep it for sell it.

Check your oil twice a week and cross your fingers that the gearbox doesnt break.

You could always take a hit and part exchange it for a different car at a local trader.

Do some searching to see if this was a private sale, or it is a trader giving you a not too true story.
What is often a very good way of doing this is to simply do a Google search for the phone number that the seller used.
If they are really a trader, this search should bring up a lot of results.

Next time don't go and view a car in the dark. And take the time to to check it over ... don't listen to the guy selling it. If you're unsure just walk away.

i hate to worry you but hpi have been pushing the fact that theres an awful lot of cars now coming on the market that have flood damage but owners haven't made an insurance claim thus not showing on ANY of the sites giving you piece of mind
can i respectfully remind people if they are spending a chunk of money whether from savings bequests or just blagging the local post office that they use long established car dealers,i thank you

Check the oil every 100 miles until you are sure it is not drinking oil, this engine can seize if it has oil consumption issues.
No way of knowing if it has started with the FSI oil drinking habit until you check the levels, some never do..
Also the gearbox oil needs changing every 60-75k regardless of what Audi say and it should see the car out
I do Contracts, all day every day.

Could be worse, you could spend £150k on a house and then after moving in you find it needs so much work you hate it...

Hundreds on the wiring and thousands on the windows and is that a damp patch in the corner?....

Oh I love people that view cars in the dark! Rain even better!!! I've sold many a cars with tatty old bodywork, scratches and scrapes which all go unnoticed.
I've been known to deliberately arrange viewings for an evening just to increase the chances of blemishes being missed.

As for the wheel well, drill a hole in it.

When I had my business, customers viewing vehicles in wet conditions would not worry about this.

I'd have the lads bring it into the workshop and dry it off, so it was presented as best as possible.

Add to that the fact that you think it's okay to commit insurance fraud (and even go as far as advising others to do the same) and I've come to the conclusion that posting "advice" on a consumer forum isn't really your forte.
