Of course BT went through first, the second merger would fail Ofcom. BT is British, o2 spanish & 3 Hong Kong.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... The BT merger didnt reduce the number of mobile networks from 4 to 3.
The 3 o2 merger will reduce the number of physical mobile networks to 3 - Whether 3 is enough for a competitive environment is the major issue with the 3/o2 merger.0 -
In a bigger picture, ofcom is concern as how to get more revenue from both shambles of networks licences and bill payers taxes.
Frequence sales etc it is validaded bribery , as none government owns the air,
Coverage, signal quality, service etc has to generate revenue, but shame in whole of the concept is that payers are only that, nobody really cares how much does one pay.
O2 and 3 merger, if to go through, they would be more competitve more influential of underdog to BT
...and... Who says BT is British?( Apart from name) Ha ha0 -

Apples and Oranges...
EE simply changed ownership, going from being owned by DT and FT to being owned by BT. A simple financial transaction.
This merger will see the owner of Three buy o2 and then merge it into its UK operation which will see a network disappear with all the competition concerns that can entail.====0 -
Following on from what they've done to all the old one plan customers I'm glad they've received this news. Let's hope the EU block it too.
I was actually in favour of it before but the way hey be treated their very old customers is appalling #makeitright not #makeitmore0 -

it is not a merger, 3 want to buy o2 from Telefonica.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -

Thats not the case though, its a buy out not a merger. 3 will never buy o2 without offhiving some 3G and 4G spectrum licences so even in that context it is not a merger, £10+ billion for a 2G network and 4G obligation on o2 4G licence is a bit steep imo.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... Of course it's a merger, 3 aren't buying o2, CK Hutchison want to buy o2 and then merge it with their UK subsidiary, 3UK.
Perhaps take 5 minutes and go see how OFCOM, the Government, the EU Commision, o2 and CKH describe the deal.
You'll discover that word again, merger...
Here, I'll help you with the first one.16 September 2015: This invitation to comment concerns the anticipated acquisition by CKHH of O2 UK which has been notified to the European Commission (Commission) by way of a Form CO dated 11 September 2015 (the Proposed Merger).
CKHH also owns Hutchinson 3G UK Limited (Three), a mobile network operator (MNO) in the UK. Three is the most recent MNO entrant on the UK market, and launched its commercial operations on 3 March 2003 with a 2100 MHz 3G network.
O2 UK is active as an MNO in the UK offers mobile communications services such as voice, SMS, MMS, mobile internet and mobile broadband services. O2 UK operates a 900 MHz and 1800 MHz 2G network, a 900 MHz and 2100 MHz 3G network and a 800 MHz 4G network. O2 UK also offers retail fixed broadband to business customers and is a provider of Wi-Fi services.
Following completion of the Proposed Merger, Three and O2 UK (together, the Parties) would be run as a combined business.
The Proposed Merger meets the thresholds for review under Council Regulation 139/2004/EU (EUMR) and has therefore been notified to the Commission. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is considering whether the Proposed Merger (i) qualifies for a request to be made under Article 9 of the EUMR to have it referred to the United Kingdom authorities; and if so, (ii) whether it would be appropriate for the CMA to make a request under Article 9 of the ECMR for the Proposed Merger to be referred in whole or in part to the United Kingdom authorities.====0 -
