The mechanic provided the donor cars and they compared all the top brands (Slick, Forte, etc) against this product.
Result was an improvement in compression plus reduced oil consumption for all cars. No product was better - they all worked the same, which I guess was the point - the rep was after selling a cheaper alternative.
But, they're not magic. If your rings are just a bit gummed, it'll help - if you've broken a ring (and probably scored a cylinder) or similar - then it'll be new engine time.
Yes - short answer is the cat will be damaged if the oil consumption is really excessive - but plenty of cars will happily burn a litre of oil every 1000 miles or so. It sounds like you're somewhat above that..?
Thanks - will give the Ametech a go - but as you've said , guess they are not miracle cure if rings actually damaged. Think my oil consumption is probably looking more like 2.5l per <1000miles - not good!0 -
take it to a garage that knows what a compression tester is a wet test is and how to use a vacuum gauge
report back if you have such a place in your town as most techs these days would'nt know a strobe light from a glitter ball in a disco theck0 -
DO NOT try ametech.. Your oil pump will seize...
Oil control rings wont really show up on a compression test. If the compression
is generally low then it maybe a sign that its getting gummed up in there.
Stick some diesel oil in it... More cleaning agents in diesel oil.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

So how many oil pumps have you seized with Ametech Restore then? I have seen one report of this and I have checked many reviews; probably in excess of a hundred. The only negative's I have seen apart from that one are from people who say it didn't work for them but didn't do any damage either. If you are planning on binning the engine anyway it is worth a shot.0 -
The reviews are usually a short time after the product was used and feedback on ebay is usually when it arrives and before people try it.
My BIL tried it years ago and had his oil pump seize soon after. Car mechanics mag tested it also and they had the same problem.
Its not worth a shot in the OPs engine because that stuff wont cure oil
control ring issues.
If you can only find one then you need to look harder, several threads on various forums where they tried the stuff and ametech used their initial review/testimony but later had to remove it.
The current sellers didnt even know it had been imported previously and tested in mags
with poor results.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I had one of these engines in a 206 and it blew the headgasket. One minute everything was fine, next minute boom.0
