Do you get a reminder from DVLA if you have duty renewed by DD?
I've not received a reminder that my road tax would be renewed tomorrow. Is this normal if you have set up a Direct Debit? (I have checked that the Direct Debit is in my account) Most organisations will usually send you a pre-payment notice even if payment is automatic.
In my DD list it says
Payee name:
Driver & Vehicle Licensing GBS
Their reference:
000000000002266278
Start date:
07/01/2015

My VED is due tomorrow. No reminder. I've just checked here https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax and my car is apparently taxed for the next year!. I would prefer to choose when to tax it. I don't remember opting in for automatic renewals.
Without a reminder I don't know exactly how much it is. Surely there should be an email reminder.0 -

Ah, I had tried that but it wasn't working a few days ago. Now it says:
✔ Taxed
Tax due: 01 February 2017
so looks like it's OK.0 -
When you pay it by dd renewal becomes automatic.
They take the money on the first working day of the month, though your car is covered from the first of the month even if it's not a working day.0 -

I think you're right. Given that it's a variable DD you should be advised in advance of the amount to be taken. Unfortunately the only action you could take would be to invoke the DD Guarantee to have your money returned, which would leave your vehicle untaxed. Maybe a written complaint to DVLA might get a response.0 -
Lifes too short. According to this https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-direct-debit/setting-up the only way to make any changes is to cancel the dd with the bank.Maybe a written complaint to DVLA might get a response.
After this years payment has been taken I'll cancel the dd and presumably get a reminder with payment options in 11 months time.0 -
I was checking my bank account and noticed that my last direct debit for road tax was in December. Just checked online and discovered my car not taxed (or MOTd but i know thats incorrrect - I have the cert).
What the hell can have happened there - i also assumed renewal automatically. There were always funds in account so not a missed payment.

I noticed last night that my monthly DD didn't go out for my car tax and checking online, I am untaxed.
MOT was done last Friday, a few days before the expiry of the last MOT. Would that have any bearing?
I just assumed that tax would auto renew?
Thanks0 -
It ought to autorenew if you have sent up a Direct Debit. Are you sure you have set up a Direct Debit. Best to check with your bank as you don't have to set up a Direct Debit for car tax you can pay a one off amount.0

Hi Rich, monthly DD was set up last year - May is the anniversary month.0

So yesterday, having thought the DD had been cancelled due to some MOT expiry admin error, I decided to go online and pay it all in one go. Email arrives to confirm this
This morning, I get another email to say that my monthly DD has been renewed and 1st payment will come out on the 19th!
Is there anyway of speaking to the DVLA about this? Should I just cancel my DD?
Really frustrating!0
