Why am I not losing weight?
Comments

Yes I have carbs at lunch then go to the gym and if I do another class after work I follow up fairly quickly with a protein heavy dinner. I've been much stricter calorie counting this week and average was around 1,600 a day so I think it's the classic under estimating what I'm eating.0

To lose weight you have to stop eating or eat less than you *want* to eat. That makes you permanently hungry and only dedicated Dieters can do it.
Can you hand on heart say that you are hungry?
if you're not then you're not dieting
End of
Don't believe that BS
It's totally made up by people that just want to keep shoveling it in
See
What a load of cowpats!

Just like to chip in that, unfairly, the waist/hip area is stubborn when it comes to appearing like you've lost weight. You more than likely have lost weight, it's just not very noticeable around those parts all of a sudden.0

Are wondering why am I not losing weight? Perhaps you were on a diet that seemed to work for a little while but you have hit a plateau. Weight loss is simply not happening as quickly as you would like. Well this is actually a pretty common problem. Let's examine exactly why.0

Seeing as nobody else has mentioned the elephant in the room, the reason you are not losing weight is the alcohol. Sorry
No drinks means exactly that. Not 2 nights in the week where I had 2 glasses of wine per night. Well that's 1000 calories in the week over and above the food you accounted for. The nights you had about 6 drinks, are an extra 2000 odd calories in the week, and your restaurant meals if you chose really carefully and only had a main course with no starter or dessert were probably around 650-700. If you had 3 courses you'll have consumed more than your daily calorie allowance even without any alcohol.
Losing weight is hard with a lifestyle that involves a lot of alcohol and entertaining. Really, you need to adopt the celeb approach if that's your life style and have one vodka with soda water when out drinking with mates (which tastes vile by the way) and in restaurants have a starter only, or a salad with no dressing, and compensate with your diet for the remainder of the week.
Basically you can't out train a bad diet, and weight loss is 80% what you put into your body and only 20% how active you are, and alcohol calories when you are trying to lose a significant amount of weight in a short time are just going to stall you.
If you have time before your holiday have a week where you drink nothing but water (no alcohol at all, no artificial drinks, no caffeine) and keep to your ideal reduced calorie count with 2-3 days exercise and see how you go. I don't know if you are male or female but assuming female, try staying between 1200 (on non gym days) and 1400 (if you need the extra on gym days) and come back and tell us whether you lose weight that week.0 -

Thats what I thought, try measuring your body instead, plus dont do sidebend exercise as they make your waist increase. Any more question I would be happy to answer, I use to help a leader for 10 years, with the script and planning for the meetings in weightwatcher.
Best weight loss diet is the Atkins, I lost a pound a day.
When I diet I use the weightwatchers and atkins diets combined.0 -
I am 5'7 and up to the age of around 40, I weighed around 8 to 8 and a half stone. After that, my weight crept up for various reasons and I have found that the 5:2 diet combined with Zumba three times a week and lots of walking has brought the weight down to 9 stone. At the age of 63, I will never go back to my previous weight but I don't
look much different to those days. The 5:2 way of living is perfect for me, and has had the added bonus of lowering my cholesterol which had gone up after the menopause. It's the easiest way of losing weight that I've ever tried.0 -
Thanks everyone again. Quick update, I didn't quite make my goal weight before my holiday (3 lbs short) but was pretty happy with where I got to. Someone mentioned lifestyle with regards to alcohol and they hit the nail on the head. My job is pretty social so entirely cutting out booze has been hard but also I haven't really wanted to as I know its not sustainable so I've accepted that as a result weight loss will have to be slower.
Good news is that I've maintained the weight I lost while on holiday without depriving myself (3 meals a day and a few glasses of wine) which I'm really pleased about as I was nervous about piling it back on before I got home. Its definitely helped it's been a very active trip. Lots of walking, climbing, kayaking etc.
When I get back I do still want to lose a further half stone but am going to be realistic about how I do it. Main thing I'll start is having breakfast as I've realised how much less I fancy a snack and how much smaller my lunches are as a result.0 -
Another quick update.
Weight has come down to 9 stone 9 partly as a result of being quite ill last week with a cold. I was therefore eating less due to smaller appetite and had a completely sober week; didn't makes it to the gym either.
Going to keep it off by sticking with smaller portions and only drinking one or two days a week and going to the gym 3-4 times rather than 8.0
