Washing machine brands? Cheap vs pricey

  • Thanks guys.

It was mainly between the cheap Beko at £200 with a 1 year warranty and the more expensive Samsung at £350 with a 5 year.

I suppose its all a big gamble, the Beko "might" last for five years anyway, but at least with a Samsung I'd have the security of knowing it will last for at least five years guaranteed.

Is that security or "insurance" worth the extra £150 (or £30 a year) though?

are you saying the more expensive ones will be better on the longer front ?

Nope, there's no guarantee of that. What I'm saying is if they do, then I will still likely end up better off. Mine have lasted 4 years so far with no indication that they will pack up any time soon.

    Regards

  • I will never buy another beko in my life ever again, My last machine was a fire hazard, the PCB control board caught fire lucky I was home and smelt burning then saw the smoke coming out of it. And it cost more in parts over 12 months than I bought it for.

I have a hotpoint, its served well with no issues in 3 years and all day use.

I would buy miele or Samsung next as I have seen both last forever with only service's needed.

for parts and labour? does it have to be new goods or can it be on a machine we got second hand if we fix it?
  • We bought a Beko dishwasher and it is fantastic on the basis of this a Beko washing machine followed.
We only use powder and maintain both with white wine vinegar and scrub/clean filters.
I've tried Smeg and Bosch previously and the Beko's out perform these.
If you are desperate for a extended guarantee buy one from the market and NOT the retailer.Don't be fooled by buying a name.
You can tippex out Beko and write Miele with a marker pen if you are a snob.

Whereas we are on our second .......... in over fifteen years! :p
First lasted over twelve years and still worked BUT needed brushes; we were replacing a few "bits" and got a good deal so ...........:j
THIS ONE is now over three & is great; used almost every day and works just fine - AND is A++ energy efficient to boot. For just over £200, it is amazing.

NOTE:- before the first Beko, we had an £1100 (then!) AEG - together with an equally-specified AEG drier. Neither of which were very reliable or (sorry, but being being honest) particularly good.
THAT is why we first tried Beko; we figured it was as cheap to buy these for what we thought would be a few years use.

Having gone through a whole lot of WMs in my time I now just buy the cheapest ( currently beko) and buy another as soon as it breaks out of guarantee.

    I had a hotpoint for 5 years
    Zanussi 18 months
    Bosch 3 years
    Candy 2 years
    Beko 3 years
Current WM beko in year 3.

I used to hammer these things when kids were small, but financially it made sense to buy cheap and hope it lasted over 2 years then as soon as anything went wrong just replace.

When this one dies I will do same, buy cheap hope it lasts.
Mind I don't have small kids now so it gets used way less. And therefore should last a lot longer.

Also the more "fancy" it is the shorter its life span.
Cos more to go wrong. I do miss a special trainer wash the candy had but not enough to spend extra money on it.

This is just my way of doing things re WMs, usually I advocate buying the best you can afford.
    63 mortgage payments to go.

    Zero wins 2016 😥

You are not looking at matters in the right light when you refer to "security" or "insurance". A manufacturer makes a commercial decision on how long they expect their machines to last before being worn out. Of course they do not tell consumers what this decision is!

In the case of Beko they are confident that it will last one year without giving many claims which will inconvenience their smooth running profitability. In the case of the Samsung they are reasonably happy that the machine will last five years before this situation occurs. In the case of my Miele they are confident to give a ten year warranty.

There are two grey areas with all this. First, it depends what clauses and exceptions are in the warranty. Second some warranties will be passed onto insurance companies and the risk then lies with them. But in general, the longer the warranty the longer the the manufacturer is confidant that the machine will last.

You say you are an environmentalist. If you practice what you preach then your decision should be the Samsung rather than the Beko.

On a few of their appliances only.

How long does a washing machine last? Anywhere between a few days & a few decades. The trouble is you don't know which you've got until the time comes.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
