Washing machine brands? Cheap vs pricey

I need a new standalone machine.
I've been looking and there seems to be 3 groups:
£200ish - Beko, Zanussi, Indesit etc - 1 year warranties
£300 - Bosch, Hoover, AEG - 2 year warranties
£350 - Samsung - 5 year warranties
How long do machines typically last? I'm a bit of an environmentalist so prefer not to buy things cheap and replace often. So if a cheap one will break after 3 years I'd rather not bother. Any experience with the brands?
They would only be getting very light usage (2-3 wash cycles a week).

I wouldn't buy anything like a Beko - cheap tat.
Our old Bosch lasted 8 years before we sold it and I belive its still going strong.
I do think you get what you pay for with white goods so if you want to keep hold of it for a while I'd suggest spending a bit of money.0 -
Miele if you want something that will last you a long time, save energy/water and and wash well. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Washing machine is not a technology gadget, so unlike with Mobile Phone, Laptop, Tabs, once you buy a WM, it will not be outdated in a few years to come. So better to buy a good brand which have a good review. It will last more than 10 years if you typically use it once in a week. Miele, Bosch are among the best.
If you are living in London there are a lot of used WM available on eBay that you could get it for less than £100 or even £50. But just be extremely careful that you know the history before buying the used WM. If you are lucky you might get a new one which is only used for less than one year or never used at all just because the buyer of the new flat just want to redesign their space, kitchen so the need to buy a new one instead to fit the space.0 -
what do you think of good warranty? john lewis . any other tips? can we buy on hp if we cannot find ebay etc.
what are some washing machines got 5 year warranties and others 1. wonder what the european law says0 -
I bought an Indesit Washer for around £200 and also bought the matching Indesit dryer at the same time for a similar amount. These have both been going strong for 4 years and still look, smell and behave like they did when we bought them. Sure if you spend 4 or 500 on a washer it may look better, may have more bells and whistles and may be slightly more energy efficient but I still think this way will e cheaper in the long run.

are you saying the more expensive ones will be better on the longer front ?I bought an Indesit Washer for around £200 and also bought the matching Indesit dryer at the same time for a similar amount. Have you asked your friends or neighbours what machine they have ?
Ours is a Zanussi and its lasted more than 10 years maybe something like 16 years, all I can remember that's gone wrong was the bearings which were replaced.0 -
Beko over 7 years and going strong, used 4 times a week, not bad for"cheap tat"!!0

I don't think you can go on name alone because even 'quality' brands have cut down, cheap models in their range, built to a price in low cost countries.
Look at the warranty - if you get a 5 year warranty then that's 5 years guaranteed life. You can buy a german brand with a 2 year warranty but that won't stop it breaking down in year 3 and that brand won't do anything for you as its out of warranty.0 -
My Hotpoint washer dryers lasted 12 years and 14 years. You can buy three like those for the price of a Miele, and it's not going to last 40 years. The sort of person who buys a Miele isn't trying to save money any more than someone who buys a Rolls Royce.0
