Be careful of the cheaper ones, don't really hold charge etc. They are big and bulky and have to remove after each journey plus they only record whilst driving etc.
I'm looking at getting the mi-witness dual dash cams, places supply and fit, hard wired so no cables anywhere, plus the have the 'park mode' so they will record when someone / thing comes close to the car. Cost approx. £199

I use an SJ4000 (Go-Pro alike), cost me £45, runs on battery for 1.5 hours. I take it out after each journey, I delete old footage and recharge it, then put in back in the car when I go out.
All this stuff with dashcams that are hard wired and turn on/off automatically etc......... Seriously? what's the point? They cost a fortune and ultimately do exactly the same job.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Mobius for quality of footage, no screen or gps though. Lots of mounts, excellent software to tweak quality, motion detection.0

I have a SJ1000, similar price.
It stays in the car, powered by a USB cable, records automatically in 5 minute segments when I start car and overwrites the oldest one when the card is full, it shuts down 30 seconds after I switch off the engine.
All sorts of other config options.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -

Yes i'm fairly sure my SJ4000 does much the same, I just don't use that because I don't leave it in the car. On long journeys I connect it to a USB powerbank strapped to the roll bar (kitcar) or the sun visor (Vectra). I can't any reason to connect it to the car at all.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

So they don't cost a fortune then, unless you decide to spend a fortune?Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
I went for Transcend Drive Pro 220, does everything I wanted and small enough to tuck behind mirror.0
