So as I understand it, you booked this hotel purely due to the entertainment facilities provided for your children. Thomas Cook wished to change your booking because these facilities would not be available.

Am I missing something or have they actually done you a favour by bringing the lack of a kids' activities to your attention?

Yes, what you have missed is the OP where it says that TC cancelled the booking because they no longer used the hotel which appears to be untrue.
    Not even wrong

I see but my point about the original hotel being unsuitable at that time of year is still valid.
  • So it sounds like they got the letter wrong but as Pattycake says, they were actually trying to do you a favour and move you somewhere with the kids stuff.
Thats okay if you booked for the kids stuff and the hotel was second to that but it sounds like you actually wanted that hotel so i can understand why you are annoyed.
Does seem like just a genuine error in letter text on their part.

So you think they were doing them a favour without actually running the idea past the customer first?
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • Do you think these companies have the time or man power to do that?!

Thomas Cook have by the sounds of it, decided to cancel the contract for April for that hotel as they know that the majority of advertised facilities won't be operating at that time of year as it's low season. If it's still available to book then maybe they found out about the kids club and decided to inform all families so that you had the choice to book elsewhere, as the OP has done. It does say in the property description though that "All facilities and activities on this page are subject to change/withdrawal" so this would cover them, had they chosen to let you go and not inform you.

I really don't see what else Thomas Cook could have done, or even why they are in the wrong here? A hotel has been booked, facilities changed, they informed the OP and he has decided to cancel and re-book another hotel elsewhere without losing his money.

I can more or less put money on the OP now travelling to a different hotel, supposedly with kids clubs, and finding he has the exact same problem as he would have done with TC in that the kids clubs are not operating. Rhodes is usually very very quiet in April, with not particularly great weather (as in not that hot for swimming outdoors), a lot of shops, restaurants etc out of the hotel closed and a hotel that is probably only half full if that.
