Advice re: travel agent changing hotel

I have received an email from Thomas Cook informing me that the hotel I booked mid 2015 and paid the balance for a few weeks ago is no longer being used by them due to negative feedback from customers. They have offered another hotel but on checking their website they still advertise this hotel for holiday booking. Am I being fobbed off????

Why not try making a fictitious booking for the hotel concerned for the same dates that you originally booked and see if you can get as far as the payment stage.
You might find that it comes up saying no rooms available for those dates in which case TC may have overbooked and are trying to get you to change hotels without giving the real reason.0 -
Did you book a package and is it still available as a package or as accommodation only? Which hotel and where?:beer:0

Thanks for the replies. It was booked as a package in June 2015 - so I am guessing the room requested was available then. I have tried a fictitious booking and getting the week after my original booking, so again I am guessing they have overbooked the room. Flights (so far) not affected. Mitsis Rodos Maris Resort & Spa was where I booked for. So annoying as the booking was made well in advance of the holiday (April 2016) as this was the hotel we wanted !!! Also to say they have cancelled the contract with the hotel for negative feedback is bad if the real reason is overbooking. Thomas Cook have said I either accept the replacement hotel or choose somewhere else which may incur additional cost......disgusted really.0

I see what you mean. It looks like someone is giving out the wrong info. Give them another call and ask them to explain why it is still on sale. Don't let them give you an excuse.
The only reason i asked if it was accommodation only is because quite often the hotel is booked through someone else not them but if not then something strange is going on!:beer:0 -
I am now being told the 'changes team' at TC do not work weekends so their website hasn't been updated.....how bad is that, so folk can still book into this hotel this weekend, pay a deposit only to be told at a later date they can no longer go, very bad practice. I have sent an email to the Mitsis chain asking if they can confirm TC no longer doing business with them.0

I am not sure a travel agent would make up such a story if they were simply overbooked, so there might be more to this story of theirs0

Just wish they would be honest - something just doesn't add up !!!! - a shame really as I have travelled many times with TC and never had a problem.0

Have you actually bothered to check the reviews for the hotel, maybe they're doing you a favour by changing it?0

Yes I have checked the reviews thank you.0
