New car problems

Hi all,

I am hoping I might be able to get some advice or help on my new car that I purchased on a pcp.

I collected my new car on the 17th December 2015, on driving home the tyre pressure warning light came on and I was advised to bring the car back. I returned the car the next day, had the problem fixed and went to collect the car driving home again I had an engine management light come on the dashboard, back to the dealer I went. Few days later I got the car back after haveing a new sensor fitted.

For the next few days the car seemed to be running ok, however on 20th January 2016 I had several electrical issues, radio resetting itself and the main beams and fog lights decided to give up on me. I returned the car again to the dealer and have now been told I need to wait for the next software update to solve this problem.

I have since made a complaint direct to Renault, but wanted to know if I have any rights or options as I don't seem to be getting anywhere I am now driving a brand new car with no main beams and a radio that randomly turns itself off.

On purchase I was also told the car should have illuminated door sills which turns out are not fitted.

Sorry for the long post but any pointers would be a very big help!

Dont just tell them; reject it. Until more people take such action suppliers of high value goods will continue to take the pjss.

Reject and buy something that's not French.

I fear you may now be too late to reject the car.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 allows thirty days to reject the thing if it does not conform to contract.

At first glance that thirty day period appears to have expired on 17 January. However, the 30 day clock stops while the goods are being repaired. You say 'a few days', but exactly how long was the car in the garage having 'a new sensor fitted'?
  • I collected the car again after the sensor replacement on the 22nd December 2015.

I have just had an update from the sales guy regarding the illuminated door sills he says "the illuminated doors sills are not actually included in the luxe pack and it is a mistake in the brochure and given he sorted me out such a good discount it shouldnt make much difference to me"

I have been quite freindly and understand so far, but now I am starting to get a bit peed with them.

Sorry, I asked the wrong question earlier.
The 30 days expired on 16 January.
How many days was your car in the garage being repaired between 17 Dec and 16 Jan?
That '30 days' can be extended by that number of days.

I would suggest that determining whether the car had illuminated door sills or not is something that could/should easily be done before making the purchase.

But if you were told that that feature was present, that could be construed as a misleading statement.
Was that statement enough to direct you into making a buying decision you otherwise would've not made?

It was in between the 18th and collected again on the 22nd so I am still outside the 30 days. Where does this leave me?

The illuminated door sills are part of the Luxe pack that costs an extra £280ish it includes an armrest, boot net and the door sills. This is on the latest brochure and available from the website. The Luxe pack also clearly shows on my invoice.

I was also told specifically these was on the car.

You should never EVER listen to or believe a salesman, they know very little about what they sell, all they're good for is parting people with their money. Unfortunately at car dealerships, salesmen also get promoted into positions they haven't a clue about (eg service manager), which is in turn why I avoid dealerships at all costs.

The discount he gave you is irrelevant, you bought the car at the price agreed with an understanding that the optional extra (luxe pack) that you paid extra for gave you the illuminated door sills, to my mind they should either refund the money for the pack, or fit the illuminated door sills. I do hope you have a brochure to prove you were miss sold the pack.
  • I do not have a showroom brochure, but it is available online and clearly states what is included.

I have just found out about The Motor Codes Advisory and Conciliation Service. They have a consumer advice line, I think they might be able to give me some advice.
