TalkTalk All-In-Sim - Word of warning for existing customers

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to drop a note to this forum to warn customers of the latest change to the TalkTalk ‘All-in-sim’ package.
I originally signed up to this as an existing TalkTalk home phone customer. Included in the package I had;
• Unlimited minutes
• Unlimited texts
• Unlimited data
WOW! All this for £12 per month & on a monthly rolling contract. This was by far the best mobile SIM I’d seen in a long time. No brainer.
This was perfect for my browsing requirements and streaming music using Spotify on my daily 2 hour drive to and from work.
A few weeks ago, I received some info telling me that 'due to a limited number of customers using their unlimited package, they were going to be reducing data down to 3GB.' I’m not massively savvy with data and my usage, so continued to use my phone as usual under the assumption that when my data has been used up, I would no longer be able to browse at my leisure, but my minutes and text messages would remain active and usable.
I received a text late last week saying the following;
“As of 23/01 at 18:01 you had 612.71MB left in your monthly plan. Your plan resets on 08/02’
I continued to use my phone, mindful I was close to using all my data but never expected what was going to happen next.
On Tuesday, I woke up to check my emails, and noticed that neither my mail or WhatsApp messages were being downloaded. I then received a text saying ‘You have hit your usage limited and your account has been suspended’
I then tried to make a call to my girlfriend and was redirected through to TalkTalk customer services where they wanted me to make a payment for overuse of data resulting in an additional charge of £24 on top of my £12 monthly payment. It’s safe to say I was shocked that they could deactivate my account and render my phone useless unless I had Wi-Fi (which I didn’t). A polite nudge that this was impending would have been nice!
The advisor told me that I have a cap of £15 in additional charges for overuse of data. Then why did they try and charge me £24 in addition to my monthly fee of £15? Something doesnt add up? Anyway - I’ve now changed my contract with them to a 12 month fixed deal with 2000 minutes, unlimited texts and 6gb data for £10 per month.
The purpose of this post isn’t to rant or be impolite as the situation’s now been resolved (even though I was passed around from pillar to post by their overseas call centre – not a great 1.5 hour experience I must add!), but to inform customers who might not be aware these changes were going to be so costly.
If you had an All-in-sim, make sure you check your usage & get yourself a better deal if 3gb isn’t sufficient.
Thanks,
Matt

I think you'll find that it's unlimited subject to FUP. If everyone streamed 40 hours per month the service would be unusable.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Unlimited should mean unlimited. A fair usage policy isn't unlimited- it's limited0
