Well ime customs officials, once they know you've been to Amsterdam, they suddenly become a lot more awake

Unless it's a small airport with few flights, to know that you're coming from Amsterdam they have presumably stopped and asked you - because of other factor(s). Not everyone is stopped.

I bring 16 cartons back regularly from Mallorca, Alicante and never have an issue. When I fly in from the Canaries, I put 1 carton in the suitcase and maybe 8 cartons in my hand luggage. I know my case will be x rayed at Manchester/Liverpool, but my hand luggage wont be on arrival.

The Departing airport are not really bothered if you have excess tobacco in your case.

I'm still doing fine on what I bought in Malta back in October. I walked through 'nothing to declare' as I knew I was allowed a (virtually) unlimited amount for my own use.

We have been stopped at ferry ports before with booze but once we explained it was for a family party there wasn't a problem. Probably driving a white van didn't help!!

Departing airports are never bothered by what you buy, they've made their money so why should they?

So are the "allowances" per annum, or per trip or do they keep tabs if your back and forth 3/4/5/6 times a year?

Just how many more cigarettes/cigars could you actually take in?
