Many thanks; I've copied that onto my Recipes flash drive for later use - Mr LW is salivating at the thought!:DTravellingAbuela wrote: »Pleased to oblige LAMEWOLF- this is the Pear and Lemon Jam recipe I use http://www.cottagesmallholder.com/pear-and-lemon-jam-recipe-93/
The Pear and Parsnip soup I cut from a mag and threw away when I didn't like it, sorry! But any Apple & Parsnip soup recipe should work ok by just substituting pears for apples.
I have JackieO's apple & parsnip soup recipe on the same flash drive, so I'll experiment with swapping the apples for pears at some point - Mr LW likes sweet food, so I bet he'll like it.
PS even though I'm vegetarian, I'm not a fan of cauliflower; I can just about cope with it smothered in cheese sauce , but it's not something I'd go out of my way to have.
And I absolutely loathe curry - can't eat anything stronger than korma! If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Just as well we are all different. I loved that hubby hated mushrooms, all the more for me! I'm not fond of squash, and I have tried many varieties. Only way for me is to roast and then use in soup, and it has to be blitzed. I don't buy them, but used to sometimes get them in my veggie box in the UK.
I love asparagus and couldn't wait to try the wild asparagus that grows here, and the kids sell it at the roadside. I did try, but no, it was vile. I turned it into a creamy soup which was ok, but will not be in any hurry to repeat the experience.
My favourite sauce recipe for cauli is actually mushrooms sauteed with a bit of garlic and then added to a white sauce, no cheese, although I do like a cheese sauce too.0 -
Interesting you say that, Anne Marie. I'm grateful that, by and large, Mr LW and I like the same things; neither of us cares for brassicas of any sort, we both love mushrooms, both happy to live on cheese (we buy our cheese at the Farmers Market, it's lovely stuff, and made with veggie rennet), both love Marmite, and thankfully he likes my home cooking.
Things I like but he doesn't, I do without; can't quite bring myself to buy just for my benefit.
Things in that category are celery and spring onions. Celery I just go without, even though I love it, and rather than buy a bunch of spring onions just for me, I dice a little bit of ordinary cooking onion and have that instead. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I don't like celery either (I slice it transparently thin, fry it and add to stews.. so I have to eat it).. garlic, eggs, onions and salad actually make me unwell, I use a lot of leeks instead of onion.. I'm worse than a picky 3 year old!! It is all just bland boring traditionally English dull food.. though pasta is bland enough to eat.
I can't even have curries in the house.. the smell turns my tum! I will never set foot in an Indian restaurant, I hold my breath to walk by!
My OH cannot abide mushrooms.. but he eats anything, literally.
DS2 and DD2 eat anything but DD2 doesn't like gravy on her meals but will eat it as part of a meal like stew.
DS3 is THE worst.. T1 diabetic so we are watchful.. he doesn't like gravy or sauce meals so stews, pasta bake etc are out. and baked beans.. burgers, fish, mince, tomato sauce.. pasta is very dull for him, he has it with mayo and that is all.. he is a nightmare.
DD3 eats anything except meat with bones, burgers/meatballs
DD4 and 5 eat anything
DD6 eats anything pretty much except potatoes.
DD7 eats sausages and chicken dippers and pizza but she is 4 and will outgrow it.. if a carrot so much as looks at her she has a meltdown!
DD8 eats absolutely anything and everything except leaves.. that is due to the effort required to chew and not choke on them I think.
This is why I feel I have to hide my own veg.. I know it is there but so long as I cannot taste it, it gets eaten. Even if I can see it I will eat it so long as I cannot taste it.
The older ones love sprouts and have stacks and get rather excited by them.. I can eat 4 any more and I get an unhappy tummy. I seem to have a rather sensitive digestive tract.
Today for example.. I ate spinach and red pepper and onion.. sneaked in the potato sauce.. every else got the broccoli though I figured that was adventurous enough for me today!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Then you'll have to live on bread & water and forget things like the veg box.we don't like cauliflower.. and I don't like cheese.. would you like a cauli sending your way? lol0 -

Oh you poor thing, must be awful. You couldn't eat at my house, there is hardly a thing that I cook which doesn't have some kind of spice or herb in.
I find it difficult to do plain bland cooking, maybe an omelette, but plainest I do has cheese on, and I often add a bit of smoked paprika.

Spring onions....sort of.
When you cut the top off an onion, place it in a small dish of water, and keep it moist, it will grow green spring onion like shoots which you can chop up and use, and it's free. I've got some on the go just now.0 -

More than 2 slices I get bloaty fish disease haha ..
I would merrily survive on cup-a-soup and chicken .. this is why I started getting the veg boxes to force myself to eat other things..
I find it so hard to even try new stuff because I react to so many things I don't want to take the risk.. yet I know I must.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Get making yourself some soup and freeze in mug sized portions, rather than using cup-a-soups with all those additives!
Another thought re your veg box, can you not tell them that you don't want a particular veg like cauliflower? I know that I had this option when I used to get veg boxes.0 -
I don't think its any co-incidence that your kids are such picky eaters.I find it so hard to even try new stuff because I react to so many things I don't want to take the risk.. yet I know I must.
The only one I would pay any attention to, foodwise is DS3 - and that would be to match his carbs with his insulin. Otherwise a healthy balanced diet would suit you all.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
