Hi All

Had a BT Open Reach engineer call out last week due to a drop in speed on Sky Fibre, traced a fault back to the street cabinet were he replaced a port and reset the line.

Line speed went from 22.4Mbps up to 33.8Mbps however over the last 5 days its dropped down to 30Mbps. (lost of nearly 4Mbps)

Is this normal with fibre broadband or suggests a fault still exists?

Sky give the estimated speed between 30-38Mbps, so if it falls again I will need to contact them.

Thanks

The OR chap may have re-started DLM, so it could well be that your line only supports 30Mb - the lowest estimated speed.

Obviously, if it continues to drop, then yes get back in touch with them.

Its within normal tolerances and depends upon how tested what time of day etc etc .

Thats the answer to your question .

But be sure you are testing direct from the master socket via cable . Do not test over WiFi.

The line speed can adjust on fibre, just like ADSL2. However, if you are concerned you could give Sky a call, and they will then run tests. However, you need to get to level 3 before you get the technicians. At level 1 they will probably pass you onto level 2 who can arrange BT involvement. Have been through it myself and its not an easy process. Every time you call back you start again!! I had a predicted line speed of 33mb by the engineer who came out. This slowed and slowed until eventually is went down to 18mb so I got in touch which lead to a long time before it got reset, and line speed went down again, only to 22mb this time but eventually they agreed there was a fault ion the line. They did whatever, repaired that and its now sat just below 30mb, which is not much less than the engineer said it would take.

So yours would seem to be reasonable given the estimate, but always worth asking them to have a look. The fibre router adjust itself to suit the line speed the line with take to be stable.
