Capquest changed dates on a closed debit bank account now killing credit record

Hi,
I've never done this before and have mild brain damage from progressive MS, so please be nice!
Basically I've been checking my noddle credit record and this month, Capquest Investments have put something on it and it's caused my credit to drop from 3 to 1. They have logged whatever it is as a bank account that apparently I defaulted on this month, under the address I moved from mid 2013. But it says date of default, on the line above the default balance of £1400, is Aug 2010
The account start date on this unknown 'bank account' is apparently Feb 2004, it's taken me a week of brain racking to work out that was an old Abbey National account that I closed a few months later.
I do remember I was having a heated conversation with a woman on the phone at Abbey. I didn't have an overdraft (I'd originally opened it to have maintenance paid into only) and they had allowed a few hundred quids worth of fraudulent transactions to go through which as I understood it, had been recalled from wherever it was sent. Previous to the fraud my acc was sitting on £0, I literally hadn't used it much at all, favouring my original bank account who I'm still with now. (I lived in a village and the local original bank branch was in that village, abbey was 15 mile away in the city, easier to use the original). I was in hospital when I was supposed to have used the card I think. It was by debit card, don't know what kind. I remember cutting my card up and writing a snotty letter to the manager at Abbey to confirm I wanted the account closing but I don't remember if I got a reply.
At that time I was staying in majority of the time as I was very ill with being pregnant. This company are intentionally using my previous address even though my bank has listed my current address on the same page!
Right now I'm 6 months into running a start up business with my other half and this is really annoying me as it is on my credit record but is not correct, it's the first I've heard of it (and I'm sure I still have the first noddle report from 8 months ago, which didn't say anything about it), it's hurting my current borrowing ability and I can't have that when it's not my fault! PLEEEEASE can someone give me a pointer as to where I need to start or what to do?!

You need to contact Santander(they are abbey now) and write a complaint highlighting as you have done above, after that hopefully it will be sorted but if not you can then complain to the ombudsman and ICO.
This may take weeks or potentially months all depends on the bank and there view of the events.

From your post I gather your account was which was empty/unused had some funds taken out of it fraudulently and whilst you managed to resolve this, it probably put your account into unauthorised overdraft = charges.
Those charges if ignored have probably amalgamated into an eventual default which is what appears to have happened in 2010. Regardless of the default only showing up now on your Noddle file, it could be that the information was updated at Equifax/Experian and this triggered Call Credit to update their info too, either way it’s there now and not going anywhere.
The way I see it is if the default was dated August 2010, you only have 7 months to wait until it drops off. It’s either that or fight a pointless battle with the debt collector/Santander who will waste just as much of your time with having to wait 8 weeks or so for a reply etc. and then will probably just refer you to the Ombudsman.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards.
