He does play when he's inside but he is 13 years old !!
He has been coming in for decreasingly short periods in the last week or so - he comes in - has a look around then goes out again - even in the cold temperatures and rain that we had a few days ago !!
He weighs almost 7 kg !!

One of mine weighs more than that - but he genuinely is big boned :) and not overweight for his frame. And my two oldest cats are nearly 13 and still play a lot too. More than my younger cats in fact.

I'm assuming nothing has changed at home recently that could have upset him or made him uncomfortable being there? You could try a feliway plug in to see if that makes him hang around more.

Nothing has changed in the house - as far as we are aware
Feliway has no effect on either of our cats !
We are starting to wonder whether feline senility has started to affect him ?

If you're concerned hes senile you need to see what the vet thinks, if he is you can't let him roam.

You could put a paper collar on him, but if you want to prevent him being a food stealer you need to prevent him from leaving the garden.

What sort of food does he eat at home? Dry food is carb based and very high calorie, if he isn't already switch him onto wet, not only is decent wet not sugar packed, it ensures good kidney function which is even more important in older cats.
