Hello all,
I have just moved into a property I just bought, the vendor signed to say the central heating amongst other things were in good working order (info doc sent b4 exchange) but now we have moved in with a 4 week old baby. I can't switch the heating on. Can anyone talk me through how to switch on a Myson Economist randall 103 boiler, the property was vacant b4 I moved in. it's got a dial under it and a button that says timer, off and constant. Itried switcing this from off to the other options the light in the boiler came on for a few minutes then stopped. The radiator never got hot. I have checked the fuse switch and it's on. please help

Hi
Do you have this? http://www.heatingcontrolsonline.co.uk/danfoss-randall-103-p-152.html
Not sure which model boiler you have. When you say 'the light came on for a few minutes' do you mean the boiler fired up and the light was the gas flame?
It may be that the pump has stuck and the boiler fired but reached temperature very quickly and cut out.Do you have a pilot light?
Do you have an airing cupboard with the pump and other controls in it?

no i don't have a pilot light. It's all as quiet as a mouse. Thanks for the link, yes that's what I have got, it looks pretty much the same.
any more tips most welcome. Yes I have an airing cupboard with controls in it.
How can i get it up and running.0 -
Hi
In the end you might need to get someone in ,but in the meantime you need to get familiar with what you have .
I am fairly certain that this boiler has a permanent pilot. Somewhere on the boiler there will be a sticker with the lighting instructions it might be on the lower section of the boiler like a tray that you pull forward ,it should give you a model number as well.
What exactly do you have in the airing cupboard.?If you have a motorized valve what make? (eg Honeywell 4043) pump? (Grundfos Myson?)there might be a cylinder stat clamped to the side of the cylinder and in a room or hall a room stat.
As a start I would ensure you have power, if you change the fuse it MUST be 3 amp one (red) . There are no lights on any of the controls you have to say if you have power or not ,the only sure fire way is with a voltage tester. However you might be able to hear some ticking from the Randal 103 as it's a mechanical clock.
I would still suspect that the pump has stuck, as I said ,removing a screw or nut to reveal the end of the impeller is one way to free it or sometimes a whack with a spanner could do it!!(carefully)
If this is the problem then relight the pilot and maybe you will get heat.
Good luck.
