Rental deposit return

Did you actually vacate on the last day of your tenancy? Because if you left earlier, then it was right that they wouldn't do the checks until the last day (or first day afterwards).
They have so far done nothing wrong. It is normally the tenant who would take the first step to request the deposit back from the scheme. For that, you indeed need your reference number. They then have a week or 10 days to respond to say that they agree to your request or not and say how much they expect to keep. It is then back with you to agree to say you don't and specify what you agree with (you might agree to a certain sum). You are usually expected to have conversations outside of this process to try to come to an agreement. If this stage is exhausted, then you would go through the arbitration process.
If it gets to this, it came take months before a decision is made and you can get your money back if they agree in your favour.0 -
Our contract was for 6 months but we were only going to stay 5 months from the start. They knew this and we gave them a few months advance warning of our leaving date. They also had the last month rent from us without us living there0

You are still responsible for the property until he last day of your tenancy, whether you are living in it or not.
I think the EA are correct saying the property would be dusty as it would if not cleaned for a month.0 -

The tenant has no case then if he left it vacant for 1 month and let magic mushrooms grow"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
