Rental deposit return

We haven't received our deposit back. It has been 14 days since we vacated the property. The letting agents didnt check it until the 12th day. Then they said that it wasn't clean enough-dust etc. It was thouroughly cleaned when we left 14 days ago. They also claim that we caused damp and mildew by not heating it properly and that we could be charged for redecoration! I was livid. I'm claiming that they should have checked straight away. We surely can't be responsible for the dust and mildew which has formed for a few weeks in a property which empty and heated. We have had a few problems with the property and agents during the past six months. A fence in the garden came down within a week of us moving in. Our children them couldn't go out to play. This was never repaired. Constant emails. There was a leak in a kitchen pipe which was repaired but caused some of the dampness. There is a wet damp patch by the front door caused by either rising damp or problems with the down pipe. Other bit of mildew by Windows. We informed them about these problems by email as soon as we spotted them. When they came to do an inspection in late November they also said that everything was fine. I have a copy of that too.The agent that we have been dealing with is off (who has all these emails is off) so the new agent hasn't seen any of these. The communication is pretty poor there anyway.on top of everything we are out of the country for months. I have written them a detailed letter with all my points and more. Please help. What's my next move?

Contact the scheme holding the deposit and make a single claim for the full amount.
Stop talking to the agent, unless it's to provide bank details for repayment.0 -
Did you take photos when you moved out ?0

Shouldn't I keep the conversation going with them? I sent my long response a day ago. No reply as yet.I can't believe how they have behaved. I don't have access to my contract either. In storage back home. The letting agent is supposed to be a reputable firm.0

Not on that date but I have photos of the damp that they claim that we have caused that I sent to them in November and January.0

Shouldn't I keep the conversation going with them? - Because it's worked so well so far? I sent my long response a day ago. - And? No reply as yet.I can't believe how they have behaved. - I can, their letting agents. I don't have access to my contract either. - irrelevant. In storage back home. The letting agent is supposed to be a reputable firm.
Reputable - ??!! really?
Do you often add 2 + 2 and expect an answer that isn't 4?
You've asked them, they've stated their position. Now you've asked again, no doubt you'll get the same response. How many times do you ask?
The scheme is there for this very reason.
You asked, they disagreed, you are in dispute. Let the scheme sort it out.0 -
I visited the website but can't find my details in the search so
I'll have to contact them to get my certificate number etc!
Hopefully I can do it all online. I've read that they need to notify by 10 working days. They have told me that they weren't happy about a few things but they haven't as yet told me of the amount they are taking off. It's 11 working days now. Surely that also helps my case.0 -

Which website?
You should have a copy of the prescribed information (which includes the reference number)
No, often you need a solicitor or magistrate's stamp as a statement of truth.
The times are mostly irrelevant. If your contract says must be notified or returned within 10 days, technically you can sue for breach of contract, but what the loss is as a result is anyone's guess?0 -
The TDC disputes. My paperwork is in the UK in storage and I'm in Canada0
