My AVG free edition wiped out my web access this afternoon, I went through the PING process with BT and shut off my anti virus and BT offered me lifelong free Norton. I'm after opinions on this, as I had Norton years ago and didn't think much of it, but I do need to actually view the interweb pages I access
Thanks

Thanks

Norton is a resource hog and can cause a lot of issues if it goes wrong. I have never had an issue with AVG and am wondering how it has blocked your ineternet access. If you are using the Free AVG product it is only an anti-virus and cannot block your internet access. Best bet is to uninstall AVG, reboot, delete the folder it installed into (normally C:/Program Files/Grisoft) and then reboot again, download the newest version of the software and then install it again. If it continues to happen then there is an issue somwhere as it is not a firewall and does not control access to http traffic.0

i bet bt get payed to recommend norton, its crap personally never worth spending the money you will spend more trying to get it off the damn pc.
nod32 and avast IMHO the best.0 -
I agree with all the above, no reason why avg would block your access, ive used it for years and never had a problem, wouldnt touch norton as it just hogs your pc and slows it down (in my opinion).0

I have used AVG for years too with no problems. However as soon as I disabled AVG I was able to display webpages again. BT gives you free Norton for life if you have their option 3 Broadband service.Norton is a resource hog and can cause a lot of issues if it goes wrong. I shall do this first thing and see what happens, thanks.

agree with those saying Norton is garbage
best are:
Steganos/Kaspersky
Nod32 - I use this oneHate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -
Current edition of PC Pro tested anti-virus programs and rates Avira AntiVir as the best free program and Kaspersky Anti-Virus7 as the best subscription (£24/annum)0

The security suite is not free which is why we are all assuming from the title that the poster is using the AVG anti-virus software.0

Having looked at security center this morning it shows my antivirus is still running, with no disrubtion to webpage display. I now have no idea what caused the issue, but as it has resolved itself I shall leave well alone0
