Windows 10 update returns it to defaults!

I logged into Windows 10 on my home computer just now and to my surprise it has returned to the original Windows 10 wallpaper, Cortana has reappeared in my toolbar (I had switched it off), most of my desktop icons have disappeared, and when I launched Firefox it asked if I want to import anything...all my bookmarks have gone! (I have backed them up, but that's not the point). Has anyone else woken up to a similar situation today? Is there a way to roll back to how it was?
EVEN WORSE...All my data has gone! Documents, Pictures, Music empty! Oh no. Hard drive failure maybe, but then how come Windows 10 is working and some of my apps remain. Hmmm...maybe it has logged me into a separate user account. Let's try a reboot.
UPDATE: I did click the right account at which point it said 'preparing Windows'. It then gave me a message about it being a temporary profile for which the settings will be lost when I log out.
NOW RESOLVED. Phew! I went into settings, update & security, then ran a new Windows update and it's back working again.

It is described as a Cumulative Update, hence the size I suppose.
I'm so glad I didn't allow any of my PCs to downgrade to Windows 10. I wonder if Microsoft will ever manage to get it working properly before the free period expires?... There will always be problems but things seem to settled down a bit since the last major release in November. The frequency of cumulative updates appears to once a month (around 10th) for security fixes and a couple per month for critical fixes.
The problem with cumulative updates is, by definition, their size. By next November it'll be about 3GB. But I guess that's solved by reissuing the whole build again...

Not sure why you think it's not working. But, then again, if you don't have it that's a forgiveable mistake to make.It is described as a Cumulative Update, hence the size I suppose.

Cumulative updates have always been large so it's not that unusual to have a large download. I understand the frustration of some not to have the ability to stop downloads of updates on the home versions (without a bit of knowhow), but to be honest, I've not had any problems either on my Home or my Pro machines.
There have always been occasional problems with updates and no doubt I'll cop for one sooner or later, but, that's the nature of the beast.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
