Finance For Kids

Options
Hi parents and concerned citizens

I have struggling recently with the burning question...

Is my daughter learning in school the essentials for today's ever changing world?

I wonder if she has the "right" real life information when she leaves primary school and then further on when leaving secondary school...
I then sit and wonder what does she learn when playing on her tablet (so many apps) or my smartphone?
Is she getting all the right education she needs in different areas of her life both at home and at school?
It can be worrying and so I want to solve a problem that I think many parents ask themselves.

Do you think an app or more technology teaching children about finance in life is needed?

Thanks so much i really appreciate it as it will help me a lot........

  • Thank you another parent did mention this to me but i feel it lacks the educational side to it plus much more, Having a bank account is one thing and actually understanding how to use the banks to your advantage and speaking about debt and mortgages etc is another...i just think there should be more out there because everything is getting younger and younger nowadays and the future of finance in especially this country is getting more nad more uncertain with cuts left right and centre and changes happening everywhere...does that make any sense sorry if im babbling

you don't need an app to learn about life. As you (The OP) have learned this valuable lesson in life its up to YOU to teach your child.
    That's what parents do .

There are various tools on the main site here that will be useful for you to work through with your teen. In particular the Teen Cash Class Guide.

Not exactly: Those who have the most influence over a child are those authoritative figures the child has contact with the most and that is not the parents.

Looking back through the mists of time to my own son at school, there was a branch of Yorkshire Bank in the school where kids could deposit and withdraw and that bank branch was run by the kids themselves with support from the bank.

The best way to learn about anything is to do it, and get the experience and there is no reason at all why children with support cannot similarly get that experience.

These days in these very forums, we read about adults who simply don't have financial knowledge and get into avoidable debt because of it. The reason they don't have that knowledge is they never learned about it in the first place.

100% wrong in my experience. If you were right then the OP wouldn't need to ask the question and all youngsters would be completely savvy and worldly-wise. Schools still do what schools do (impart academic knowledge to a testable standard); it's too many parents who in recent generations seem to have been delinquent and neglected their responsibilities towards their children.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....
