Insuring 5 cars for 10 people for 1 month????

Hi, strange title I know but here's the story.
I've bought 5 cars worth less than a grand each and need to insure them for 1 week's worth or European driving.
There'll be 10 of us in total, 2 to a car, driving from Manchester to Germany and back.
Trouble is, because our NCD is used on our other cars we're being quoted £500-600 for each car for a full years insurance. I'm assuming I can cancel the policy and get something back after the trip, but is there any way to do this better and cheaper? It's for charity BTW.
Thanks
Steven

Hiring five cars for a week would have been a better and cheaper way to go I feel. Might still be.0

You have to give the car to the charity once you've done, and they have to be worth less than a grand. Nice idea though.0
-
See what it would cost to swap your existing cars over to the bangers for a week then swap them back again after the week is over! (Keep your uninsured cars off road and safe whilst they are uninsured)0
-
Thx Quentin, already considered that but we're leaving the wives at home and they'll need the cars.0

They could hire or use taxis or (heaven forbid) buses0

Short term policies on all the cars? You could also look at insurance companies that will mirror your bonus to the new cars (providing you meet the criteria). Ring a broker for that. Make sure they're pro-rata cancellation companies with cheap cancellation charges else you'll get stung. £500/£600 with no bonus is pretty good, so with a mirror it should technically be affordable.0

I agree, looking at short term companies may be best as you don't want to be stung by a high cancellation fee on 5 policies! If it's £50 that's £250 extra you're paying out on top on the actual insurance cost.0

If you have time and your charity is worthwhile you could try pitching to the insurers to see if they will provide insurance cover FOC as sponsors.
If the charity is big, see if their fundraisers can help with contacts in the insurance industry0 -
Why not just give a reasonable sum to the charity and not bother going? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
