Require BT Static IP Address at Home

BT tell me I can't have a Static IP Address at Home unless I have a Business line installed. A Business line costs a lot more than a Home line. Why can't BT provide a Static IP Address on a Home line?

Because it's how they keep the price down ,you need BT business broadband

Do you really need a fixed IP address?

There are several companies and organisations that will link a fixed address to an IP address. Many routers, including BT's HomeHub, can be configured to work with several of them and do the update automatically.

I use No IP, but there's others.

Even with the more costly BT Business line you still have to pay an extra £5.50 per month for each Static IP.

Other ISPs will provide you with a static IP address, and whether your phone line is business or domestic is irrelevant to them as they won't necessarily have anything to do with your voice service.

I have a domestic phone line with BT and a /28 subnet (16 contiguous IPv4 addresses) with the ISP that I use. Unlike most, I don't "bundle" my voice and broadband as they are very different services.

Have you looked into Sky Broadband Pro? I believe they offer a static IP address as an option.
