Qatar airways compensation...will they pay?

Hi all, I think I understand the basics of the EU 261 2004 ruling, but I'd like n opinion and advice.
In2012 I flew with Qatar airways from London Heathrowto Hong kong. Via Doha. The first portion of the flight was delayed ( from London to Doha), resulting in a missed connection in Doha. We were put on another Qatar flight...to Singapore and then a Cathay pacific flight to Hong Kong, resulting in a 7 hour delay. I have seen in the past that Qatar have a 'difference of opinion' with the CAA and have refused to acknowledge delays with connecting flights in Doha , as Doha is in the UAE and not in the EU. I think I have a solid case as the entire trip was booked as a flight from London to Hong Kong. Has anyone had any problems dealing with them? Will they conform?Do they have a loophole? Thanks

qatar flights would be covered in this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4445423
whether you are actually due compensation depends on the reason for the initial delay
have a read of vaubans guide https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/51738880 -
And how long was the first leg delay? You maybe due compensation from that alone.
The airline could not successfully argue both sides, in terms of is being a single or multiple ticket. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
