Looking for advice on Huge Gas Estimate

Hi all,
I am a student in Cornwall currently on British Gas Dual Energy, Fix and Fall November 2016.
(1940- Flat, two Occupants, one bedroom)
I am looking to swap to another supplier, so I submitted a reading too British Gas to see
how my account there was doing, My bill seemed rather higher then what is has been
estimated:
(Date) Meter kWh
26 Jan 2016 Customer read 06760 2333.0
10 Nov 2015 Estimated 06551 279.0
27 Sep 2015 Customer read 06526 413.0
03 Jul 2015 Estimated 06489 11.0
01 Jul 2015 Customer read 06488 0.0
I double checked the gas meter and that is the reading... I know its been winter but the
heating hasn't always been on and we even went home for 2-3 weeks in that period...
We had a period of a week where the boiler wouldn't keep pressure if that would explain what's happened.
Any advice on this issue would be really helpful, should I contact British Gas? or wait
for the next proper bill? Not sure if I want to switch supplier if this is going to
cause a problem

Estimates are best guesses - it's the actual reads that matter.
Give your readings to BGNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
It's after I added my own reading that it sky rocketed, I added that last reading but an hour ago.0

Nothing to do with a combi losing pressure-that would at worst simply result in the boiler locking out and failing to fire.
Metric or imperial meter? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
We have Metric meters in the building.0

Those 234 metered units translate to a bill of approx £125 - for 5 months - many would like your bill.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Like the post above, I cannot understand the title of this thread.
Your reading on 01 July 2015 was 06488, on 26 Jan 2016 it was 06760
So in nearly 7 months you have used 272 metric gas units which is approx. 3,050kWh way below average consumption.0 -
And that includes most of the winter. Student, possibly first time living away from home, may have little idea of the typical cost of domestic energy? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

@macman I think that is exactly what it is, in fact I would have no idea as I have no one to compare it too - To ask one other question then:
The MSE Energy saver has recommended that I should swap to GB Energy or OVO that would save us about £180 a year (MSE is telling me I am over-paying £230 a year).
As British Gas has no leaving fees should I go ahead and change, Anybody else been with these companies? GB do not have a fixed rate, OVO have a fixed rate for 12 months but we will be in this property for about 15-16.0 -
Ovo yes highly rated .0

Given current price volatility, a 12m fix is about as far ahead as is needed. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
