Do all men do this?

Do all men tell tall tales? You know.... been fishing and caught a whopper........ when in reality it was a teeny tiny tiddler.
We have one of hubby's mates round tonight and I've just heard hubby telling a tall tale of how he used an empty plastic bottle as funnel to put petrol into a car....... I don't believe a word of it....... this was something we both watched on Police Interceptors last night! I've given you the quick version of the story, the one he told went on and on and on lol. So tempted to say 'how strange, thats exactly the same thing we saw on tv last night' but I resisted deflating his ego
Thankfully I don't have to listen to this very often, just wonder why he can't just listen to his mate and not have to try to 'top trump' him at every turn?

Women lie too, it would seem.0 -
Not any more than some women do. As long as it's not causing anyone any harm, let him get on with it.0

I can't remember what I've told people well enough to lie, so there's no point.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230

naw, my OH cannot lie to save his life!0
-
There isn't anything that all men do, or all women do, except the basics like eat, sleep and excrete I suppose!0
-
No, but I know both men and women that do this. OH would never do it! One of his friends fell over drunk once and cut himself and told some ridiculous story about how it happened, but he obviously forgot that some of the others had seen it happen! I think he honestly believed he'd managed to fight off a gang of men single handedly!0

No not all men lie, but it's quite funny if it's just harmless tall tales. Some people love to spice up the story each time it gets re-told, adding bits here and there.left the forum due to trolling/other nonsense

IMO, men tell tall stories, and exaggerate, and say things to make themselves seem more impressive, more successful at work, in a better job, on great pay etc, and some exaggerate their prowess in bed. I have even known men who exaggerate how attractive their wife or girlfriend is, and lie about her job, and what uni the kids are at and all sorts. Again, to impress.
Also, I have known men wildly exaggerate about an accident they had, what a hardman they were in any given situation, and how assertive and angry they were with the man in the shop when they demanded their money back, how much they have travelled and the countries they have been to, etc etc.. On some occasions, they have been outed as lying/exaggerating and I have known they were lying, and other times I was never 100% sure, but I did suspect it.
Women will more likely lie about how much they spent on the shopping, in the charity shop, on those shoes, on that handbag, on her hair, on the kids (toys/goods/money she gave them.) Lady wife said she gave our daughter £35 into her bank account the other week (she is at uni,) and DD dropped it out that it was £50. No biggie, but a wee white lie LOL! She does this quite a bit and doesn't think I know. LOL.
I think women tell other little white lies too to spare people's feelings, and to get themselves out of tricky situations, and they are not always 100% truthful about the behaviour of their kids, or the relationship with their partner; choosing to leave things out that actually happened, or things that were said.
On the whole I would say men AND women lie, but I would say men lie more than women. And IMO men are more prone to exaggerating and 'flowering things up' more than women. LOL
You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Thanks to everyone for putting it in perspective...... It is harmless but for some reason I got quite narked off about it tonight
. You are right too....... I can tell the odd white lie myself........ usually about shoes that were 'half price in the sale'. At least I'm laughing about it now and aren't irritated any longer

Another thing I don't do is ask "how much did that cost?"You are right too....... I can tell the odd white lie myself........ usually about shoes that were 'half price in the sale'.
If someone wants to volunteer the information, then fine, but if not then it's their money, their choice and their business, not mine.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230
