Uk mobile abroad, calling another UK mobile abroad in another country!

I am on holiday in Spain and want to call my girlfriend in Malia (Greece). We both want to use our mobiles (mine - orange, hers - O2). Anyway we can call without getting rediculous size bills when we get home.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

In any case, look into registering her O2 for My Europe Extra, which costs £10 a month and means incoming calls free, outgoing 25p to most of Europe.

Orange don't have any cheap roaming deals, and are being a bit slow introducing the Eurotariff.

For you I'd suggest you get either an O2 UK or Spanish pay-as-you-go SIMcard, or even both, then:

O2 - register for Chosen Country - Spain - this costs £5 a month and is then the same tariffs as My Europe Extra. Look into callback services to use the free incoming calls to work around O2's outgoing call charges. The cheapest is sms callback from the VoIP provider JustVoip, at 2 x 5c + vat a minute. You can get cheap sms from Vyke - see a nearby thread, or if her O2 phone is a contract one then she could initiate the calls using inclusive messages

Spain SIM - I'd suggest Vodafone Spain, on their Vitamina 60x1 minutos option, so they only charge the first minute for calls up to an hour to landlines and Vodafone, namely about 58 cents. Then use a callthrough access number such as DialNow for 5c + vat per minute for UK mobile; to do this it helps to register the DN account as in Spain, and register the mobile to use with it; otherwise you also enter an account PIN

So, a choice between 8p/min or 40p connect plus 4p/min
