Just tried playing an episode of Deutschland 83 on 4OD direct from the web site and you are right that does not work. But then again yet another item I can watch a different way and still under Linux Mint.0

take a look at "Solus" https://solus-project.com/
its a mix of Debian and ChromeOS.
I've tried it out on an old laptop and it was quite responsive and clean looking.

I put Antergos on a laptop for my niece's partner as the original HDD failed and I didn't have a re-install disc for Windows 7 HP.
I worked perfectly and even picked up and used his Vodafone mobile internet dongle without any issues either.Never Knowingly Understood.
