I agree, it's about remaining competitive.

We are planning on letting our house in France as a holiday let. So should we get internet?
How much extra is it worth or will it just make it easier to let?
The house has UK TV but no phone and mobile signal is poor. It will cost about 60€ to instal, 32€ a month and 50€ to cancel.
    Thoughts please.
Definitely - it'll only add a couple of EUR a day to the price if you rent it out most of the year.

While some people might like the idea of an "offline" back to basics country retreat, you'd be cutting out a large section of the market if you don't have wi-fi and everywhere else does. It's then up to the renters if they use it or not.

As someone who works in technology, I would rather have wi-fi in a property than a TV (especially when abroad) but I do like the occasional no-tech holiday without a phone, computer or even my trusty Kindle in order to totally switch off from the modern world.
There's switching off and switching off - even if you don't want to check emails/FB etc wifi is useful for stuff like finding a decent local restaurant, checking opening times/prices of local attractions etc. Something which nearly everyone will do on holiday even if they want to escape from the modern world...

I must be the exception. If there is wifi then it's a bonus but definitely not essential.

Over the past few years, I have stayed in Holiday rentals, with and without wi fi. Wi fi always comes out as a benefit to me.

We stayed in a villa in Lanzarote which had wi fi, slow but ok for what I needed it for. 3 months later a villa again in Lanzarote. The wi fi was fast, but switched itself off after a while, if I had been using it too much, like streaming tv ( was bad weather all week, so stuck in, in the eve times)

Holiday to a 2 star apartment in Mallorca. This had a vodafone mi fi supplied. Was quicker than my broadband at home!. Stayed same place in Sept. Same Mi Fi, but was very, very slow.

IMO, a decent wi fi signal will benefit your rental potential. Most will find use of it, just don't need to go all singing, all dancing top speed on it, a basic package would do.
  • if you need it for your work -let it be
    but if no no wifi
    enjoy resting

I'd agree. I've found many tourist boards no longer send out printed brochures about their areas, instead they rely on on-line brochures or PDF. That's fine if you remember to download before you go ... Invariably we end up using wifi to check postcodes of attractions for the SatNav, opening hours, prices etc.

    Hi,

Well I have a gite in the Loire Valley that I rent for holiday lets - I am not allowed to advertise, so you would need to search for it.

But I have WiFi and UK FREESAT - people have asked me for it & I am sure I get bookings because of it.

If you want advise - PM me - happy to help.
