Not using a flight on purpose

Options
I need to go to San Francisco for work in a few weeks, and although we have a secretary and travel agent to book flights, I cant help myself looking.

Im flying from Edinburgh, and using Skyscanner to search.
EDI>AMS>SFO return is £2630 business on KLM (cheapest/convenient)

However, DUB>AMS>SFO return, is £1560 on KLM (same transatlantic flight)

An economy KLM flight EDI>AMS, timed to fit in with the transatlantic crossing is £200.

Can i buy the ticket from Dublin and just never use it, yet still save £900? Will it cause issues when I land?
Would KLM check me in for the whole journey at Edinburgh?

(FYI for added madness, the AMS>SFO leg standalone is £3021  )

If you book from DUB and don't turn up there, the rest of your booking will be cancelled.

No if you skip the first leg of the journey the remaining sectors will be automatically cancelled.

Look at a separate ticket edi dub more time but you still make a big saving.

You must use the tickets in the order they are issued. If you miss any part out they can cancel the lot.

thanks for the response, was thinking that could be the case.

EDI>DUB adds another leg and probably an overnight, as im not paying the company can stump up.

    Sorry that's wrong.

It's only the first part of the leg that's important not to miss.

In the OP's case it's cheaper to fly from DUB so he could-as suggested- buy a SEPARATE ticket EDI-DUB and then start his journey from DUB.

No, it is all parts of the ticket. For example, if he failed to use any part of the outbound ticket then the return ticket would be cancelled as well.

From BA's website & pretty much standard

Using flight coupons in the right sequence and changes in itinerary

Your ticket is no longer valid if you do not use all the coupons in the sequence provided in the ticket. Where you change your travel without our agreement and the price for the resulting transportation you intend to undertake is greater than the price originally paid, you will be requested to pay the difference in price. Failure to pay the price applicable to your revised transportation will result in refusal of carriage
