An Unknown CCJ and clearing it!?

So I have recently decided to find out what my "credit score" was and have come across a few details that are slightly worrying. I have found that there was a CCJ placed against me around 2 years ago. I have no idea where or what the CCJ could of been for. So I am at a loss to what to do about it as it is for just over £2000. All I have is that it was done from an Online or Automated court in Northampton from memory. I haven't received any demands for money nor any debt collection companies coming knocking etc. And seeing as I don't know what it is about, I don't know how I would go about getting it sorted and cleared from my account! And how I would dispute this!

Any help would be massively appreciated.

  • My suggestion would be to call up the Northampton Court that issued the CCJ and request some details - the reference number of the CCJ should appear on your credit record. CCJ's usually stay on your account for 6 years from the date the CCJ was made. I think you'll struggle to have this removed from your account unless you are able to prove it relates to a debt you know is not yours.
  • I have looked into the information available on the credit file and it is from County Court Business Centre. Internet says that it is just an online court/computer program where people submit details to and it does its thing automatically. I am completely lost when it comes to stuff like this, will probably be a case of sitting down tonight and spendng a few hours looking through information available and sending a few emails or something.

What are the options then if it has been on my file and effecting me for 2 years so far!? Suck it up for 4 years, try and get it cancelled/wiped or getting a note attached etc to show that it's not my debt!?

This is why people should check their credit reports periodically, to make sure that nothing is amiss.

Who_is_this_dude - the poster above you has given you clear concise details on what to do, why did you totally ignore them? Is it really that difficult to Google the phone number of the court who issued the CCJ and call them up and ask for more details?

Since you've had it for 2 years and been oblivious to its impact, I hope you aren't looking to apply for a mortgage any time in the next 4 years or any other forms of credit, you'll likely have to suck it up as the time for getting the judgement set aside was within a month of you receiving the CCJ.

Attaching a note to your credit reports will make no difference as lenders won't pay any attention to it, how many times do you think they have heard the "it's not my debt" excuse? (regardless of it being true or not)

Once you get further details from the Court as to who actually gave you the CCJ, contact that company and see what they say. I don't hold out much hope for you having any success in removal because a quick Google shows others have had similar problems and got nowhere.

if you have no prior knowledge the words "set aside" come to mind , this would cost you approx. £155 , at which point the original company can go for you again , but if the debt is truly owed , you can pay it before court action.

there is a time limit between noticing the CCJ on your file and applying for a set aside.

here http://parking-prankster.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/prankster-guide-to-getting-parkingeye.html is the method used , and the number of the forms involved in doing this.

the link is to get a "nasty" company called "parking eye" off your back , as they thrive on CCJs , and people having to pay their extortionate costs to get PE to mark there file as "satisfied"

gather as much info on set aside before blundering in.

  • people might submit details, but to say it is done automatically is not correct: the defendant will receive a claim form from the court where he can admit or defend the claim being made. Otherwise anyone could have a ccj made against someone else!

which goes to prove that the correct info was not received by the OP (wrong address?) therefore a set aside is applicable in this situation

Have to agree with papa golf - they should get something but it doesn't mean they did. You say the defendant 'will receive a claim form' - that can't happen unless they have up to date records. There is a very good chance the OP genuinely knows nothing about it as they say, however hey also have the route to find out all the information and take things forward.

    There's no proof of that.

OP could be suffering from debt amnesia.

OP can apply to have the judgement set aside: https://www.gov.uk/county-court-judgments-ccj-for-debt/if-you-dont-owe-the-money.
