American Express On Credit File

Hey,

So, as a New Year's resolution, I decided that I wanted to sort out my finances! My credit record is abysmal, and littered with defaults / delinquent accounts. Whilst going through my Experian credit report, I noticed that my American Express credit card did not feature on my report :o

Due to redundancies, I stopped making repayments almost 2 years ago - I still receive the monthly statements, but there is no trace of the credit card on my file. I thought perhaps they reported to a difference credit referencing agency such as Equifax or Call Credit so I pulled the free versions of the reports through Clear Score and Noddle and there's no trace of the American Express credit card on either of those! I'm confused! I obviously don't want to bring this to the attention of the credit bureaus because it would impact my credit score further.

Any advice please?

Could it be in the closed/settled section of your credit cards?

When was the card account opened?

  • It's not in the closed / settled section of my credit report, as the account hasn't been settled - there is an outstanding balance on the account of approx. £1,200.

Not 100% sure when I opened the account but it was probably about 3 / 4 years ago.

Could it be that Amex sold your debt to a debt company and one of those defaulted accounts on your credit report relates to it?

You say you still receive the monthly statements and owe £1,200 - what does it say on your statement - does it show late payment fees, amount due etc?

Have you ever noticed it on your CRA files?

Accounts can drop off your files for short periods if they are actively in the process of being sold to debt collection agencies and will re-appear under the new owner of the debt (with the original default date etc)
