Can I run my sky signal though excisting tv points in my new build home?

Options
Hi just after some advice.
We have just moved into our new home (new build) in which every room has a singal port tv point in, and cables running into the loft from them.
I have sky installed in the front room only, my quirey is can I run a signal from my box though existing cables(joined in the loft) into the master bedroom??? I have an excisting magic eye, and was hoping to have the ability to change the channel & acces recordings off the box down stairs. Is there a way of using the tv ports hidden wires or do I need to run a cable from the box to the magic eye(internally or externally) like in my old house.
Advice would be much appreciated
Andrew

    Yes you can.

But the ease of doing so depends on what is in the room with the Sky STB. I guess you have two sky feeds, what else is there?

ie. A TV socket, radio socket and a socket marked "return", just a TV socket....
  • Two sky feeds from the dish. Then there is a singal point TV socket on the wall. I was hoping I could run a cable out of the sky box coaxial into the wall socket, join that cable in the loft with the bedroom one, then using a f plug male screw from wall socket in master bedroom to the magic eye.
Appreciate the help, when I was looking last night, I read a post a few years back that you had helped out on, so was hoping you'd see mine. Cheers

Then yes exactly as you suggest run the feed from the STB RF out or IO Link to that socket in the lounge.

Connect the two feeds in loft and bedroom will view Sky.

Add a DC pass two way joiner/splitter in the loft and you could add a TV aerial to the bedroom (or bedrooms) feed if you wished.

If you can view but not control the Sky stb the wall sockets may have a DC block on them (stopping power going to the eye) and need to be swapped out for ones without. http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Archived-Discussions/Sky-TV-link-and-Entertainment-wall-socket/td-p/2140905
  • Thankyou for your advice.
So the socket in the lounge should accept the DC?
And if the bedroom socket will not allow DC, what do I need to purchase? Easy fit?
I've ordered a few cable ends off eBay and will try them once they have arrived.
so il post back on here when I have an answer.
    Many thanks

The DC will go from the setop box to the eye and the IR signal returns. Both sockets must be DC pass through like these cheapies:

If you look at the back in those images there are no resistors.

If you have sockets with resistors in the rear swap them both out.

Or if they match the rest of the room you can take out the resistors with a bit of soldering or simply swap out all the internals.

Just to note, Whipp007 - the satellite signal from the dish isn't very strong, and weakens with cable length, and greatly weakens with every join - this is why it's actually a good idea to leave the ugly wires hanging out of the wall. My dish is quite far away from my Sky box, so your mileage may vary.
Same applies to the Magic Eye setup - my RF cable for Magic Eye also carries my Freeview signal to those TVs, and the one in the bedroom can't get all the Freeview channels, due to cable length.
  • Kurtis I've taken a look at in behind the tv socket in the bedroom nothing inside the box but the cable a securing screw and what I can only describe as a square Spring type thing around the whole thing. Presume this is not a resistor?

    Photo, please.
  • My magic eye only works direct from the I o link, even with a small section of cable from the io link to the eye it still does not light up, so I'm assuming there is a problem with the cables not accepting DC?? Even tho I can recive a poor pic though the cables to the bedroom
