Littlewoods PPI Refund Request from 2000-02 - Is it worth it?

Options
I have just realised I was paying for PPI when I shouldn't have been, have worked out the dates and it was Kays / Littlewoods from 2000-2002.

As they weren't regulated then is there much point attempting to claim back? I know I can give it a go, but I am assuming that they will just flat out say no because they can. Has anyone had anything from them refunded prior to 2005 accounts?

Thanks in advance.

Your main problem may well be lack of proof of payment, unless you have the statements going back that far as littlewoods like the other lenders will claim they only hold paperwork for 6 years, this may or may not be true have seen reports that when pushed via the FOS some lenders have "found" earlier paperwork, but most stick to the 6 yr rule either way.

If you have got paperwork its worth the price of a stamp to try to claim off littlewoods as you never know they may pay up.

    Good Luck

  • Thanks Ali! I spoke to them and they confirmed they have my account on file showing PPI from 2000-2002.... but damn they were so helpful and quick with posting a form which was probably because they knew they were never going to pay out ha ha.

But I think I will fill it in and assume I will get a bog off letter, at least then I have tried? I have read through other peoples stories and they seem very militant and difficult to deal with generally anyway TBH

I have just found out though that the account was moved over from a credit account to a dormant / cash account only so in theory I could use it and pay cash... so now I have no idea if I am a bog off or a bog on! If I stopped paying my PPI in 2002 but the accounts still "there".... ugh I have no idea how this works!

If I hear back I will update again for the sake of anyone else wondering if it would work or not!

They are not being militant or difficult, they weren't regulated so they don't have to pay.

If you sopped paying PPI in 2002, nd you are successful with your complaint, they will refund you only what you actually paid in PPI, so if you were paying it from 2000 to 2002 then that's what you will recieve back [plus assosiated interest applied and 8%]
However, if you usually paid your bill in full, you won't have paid any PPI.

Well yes based on the other threads here and on other consumer sites other people feel they are being militant and difficult in general, regardless of whether they were eligible or not, that is their anecdotally reported behaviour across the board regardless of liability.

Its not for you or me to question other peoples perception based on their experiences, they had the experiences, not us. I think most people accept companies don't want to give away money willy-nilly, I was drawing on other peoples comments which I found very useful and insightful. Likewise I was only seeking similar useful and insightful support.

  • I have only gotten as far confirming my details so it was very straight forward really but they did answer my questions quickly and gave me lots of useful information. I haven't had the need so far to have a discussion with them in detail yet or the need to query any statements I disagreed with yet, but other members here have given me insights that are really valuable in what to expect. I get anxiety in situations like this do I try to research as much as I can.

How was your experience with them? Were they quick to get back to you? Did they ask for a lot of additional documents and dated and times? or the names of who you dealt with?

You choose to believe this, despite having the opposite experience?
Its not for you or me to question other peoples perception
Probably not for you and I to believe this perception despite personal experience to the contrary either.

Could you simply want to believe they will be "militant and difficult"? Certainly sounds like it...
  • I feel I have made a solid and firm assessment using a selection of sources of data that I have available.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I feel blessed with all the kindness! I will keep you fully informed of the outcome.

Alternatively, you could just detail your own experience rather than those of others clearly coloured by their lack of success complaining about pre-regulation finance..
  • Excellent, in that case I shall continue to do so and include my experience also so others may get further insights should they want to.
