.
Hotmail (aka live/outlook) also has IMAP support and has done for the last couple of years now, works just fine for me in Thunderbird on Linux.

Office 365 corporate on the other hand is a completely different matter as IMAP support has been broken for all O365 users since last week thanks to Microsoft's total incompetence and are still struggling to fix a week later.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
I've been a talktalk customer (9yrs) & have decided to leave them(for sky/plusnet) I know that I can't keep my email addresses0

its pop only though, not iMAP. pop isn't great for synching. It's been a long time since I used pop as far as I can recall I don't it's only a one way sync. If you delete or mark a message as read it doesn't update the server. Also it doesn't upload sent messages to the sent box on the email account. I could be wrong on this, but always stayed away from pop since as long as I can remember.0 -

A friend who used AOL as a ISP and uses their email. delayed leaving them as she thought she would loose years of emails. Now, about 5 years after leaving she is still using the same AOL email account and has all her old emails.
it's worth asking but sooner or later, like all antiquated ISPs they will cease to exist. I had this with o2 email account, (used it to register some strict forums that dont like free emails, and also ebay). O2 let me keep the email after I stopped using their ISP but then they stopped broadband altogether and then shut all email accounts.0 -

Stop this nonsense now, Hotmail (outlook/live) supports IMAP as stated above in post 13.
You've not only failed to read my post but continue to assert incorrect information.

I still use my Tiscali account from years ago, which is now part of TalkTalk I think. Not sure of the technicalities about POP and IMAP, but I linked it to Outlook no problem, along with my gmail account. The OH has a plusnet account (our current provider) and she has a master account and a secondary account. Apparently we can setup as many e-mail addresses as we want from the master account, but never bothered.0

Back in those days though to access you email you had to dial into the ISP, it would detect your IP when trying to connect from a different email and bar you from access.
Just get hotmail or gmail. gmail is slightly more universal in that it has IMAP support. hotmail/outlook only works well with live mail (dont think it even works with outlook). So gmail will have to do.
I prefer hotmail because i dont want google to run my life. Just hope microsoft doesn't kill it with bing in the future and starts to dominate search - then i'll have to use some other email as I will be binging everything.londonTiger wrote: »its pop only though, not iMAP. pop isn't great for synching. Chances are you send up with an account with everyone anyway. I've got Gmail (ordinary and Google apps), Microsoft and Apple email accounts just because I have devices that require them. I don't use them all but it's handy to see features etc, or you might not use the email but use other linked services like Microsoft Onedrive or Google photos...
Open one everywhere and see which suits - there's nothing worse than a rubbish email system (I've left and returned to my Google Apps several times but it suits me)0 -

sometimes "looks" better than a Gmail account , and receives a lot less junk
when setting up in outlook it take a few minutes , give it time
When you set up a gmx account you have to give it an email address, but am I right in thinking (sorry not tech savvy) you can still use your current email accounts/addresses?0
