Third party charges

Options
My mobile bill has increased by £10 for the last 2 months. I rang EE to find out why, third party charges. I have been receiving texts asking me to click a link to see 'hot sexy babes' - ive just been deleting these thinking I was doing the right thing. I should in fact have replied 'STOP'. The EE call centre were very helpful and told me the number to ring and to ask for a refund of all charges, he said they would need my bank details and they would transfer it in.

I called up and asked for a refund, the lady said someone will ring me within 2 working days and she has cancelled any future messages immediately. She took my name and address. I asked why she needed my address, she said refunds will be sent via cheque. I am concerned when (or if?) someone calls back they will ask for bank info to transfer it - then they'll have my name address, sort code and bank account number. Has anyone else had this problem?

£20 and counting so far, it can't continue.

I don't see any problem. None of the above details is a top secret.
However, for a cheque they don't need your bank details. For a bank transfer they don't need the address.
  • If they have me name, address, number and bank details, nothing can come back to bite me?

There are several types of unwanted texts that you might receive.

If they come from a mobile shortcode you need to send the STOP message.

If they come from a normal 07 mobile number you can simply ignore and delete.

If you delete or block messages from mobile shortcodes you will still be charged.
  • I have text STOP now, its getting my money back now. Looking through previous bills it is £27.50
  • A lot more than 2 working days has passed, I've called up twice more and been told someone will call me back. No calls received. Can anyone advise as to my next move?

Additionally, if the number you called was something other than one starting 01, 02, 03 or 080 then you have the right to a refund of any excess call costs incurred over and above whatever you would have paid to call a number starting 01, 02 or 03. Specifically, this covers any case where you had to call a customer service line that is still using a number starting 084, 087 or 09.
