EE to EE text takes 3.5 hours to arrive!

I was travelling to Newcastle and was messaged just after I set off yesterday. The text was asking if the bus was on time.
I did not receive the text till 3.5 hours later when I was in Newcastle sat next to the person who sent the original text.

My phone had been on all the time as I was listening to the radio on it!

SMS text messages are "store and forward" via the network, there is no guarantee of a delivery time. If the network has a fault, or is suffering congestion, your message will be delayed or not delivered at all.

I often come across friends who send a text message and incorrectly assume because they have sent it, the message must have been delivered...

Bottom line, do not use SMS text messages for anything important.

Drives me crazy when people assume because they've sent a text the intended recipient must have received it.
A friend's work colleague wasn't able to attend work because she was sick. They had no idea where she was and eventually got hold of her at home. She said "well, I sent the boss a text!"
I used to be with Orange and SMS messages would frequently arrive up to a day after they were sent, even if voice calls had been made on the same number.
