Paying for electric up front

  • Hi,

perhaps it's a standard letter that was churned out to all.

They probably didn't check electricity usage, it sounds more like it's meant for residential occupants.

I believe that is the first time static has been mentioned in this thread ;) And given that OP explains why they chose that site, I'm erring on the side of it being a touring caravan.

OP says "caravan sited locally" which suggests it's a static, especially as there is electricity charge of £150 pa.

I suppose it's not the actual physical movement ND was referring to, but the fact that very few sites accept caravans which they have not supplied.

Caravan sited locally to me (especially in the context OP says it) means a site local to the owners home residence - doesn't suggest anything about what type of caravan it is imo. As for the electricity, not sure on the significance of this without more details from the OP.

Plus saying the elderly neighbours will be moving from there.

The latter paragraph about being unwilling to accept caravans they have not supplied may be true for statics, but not for touring.

Touring caravans aren't usually permanently sited, which OP's daughter's caravan appears to be. Also OP refers to an annual charge, which again suggests permanent siting, although £1,350 pa seems a low annual site fee.

Certainly can't speak for the whole population but I know quite a few with them sited in the same place all year round. Its more the norm than people keeping them at home tbh. Although some will only site them during warmer seasons.

That being said, I've never encountered a site yet that was all/mainly statics (unless you count lodges/cabins as statics!). So perhaps personal experience is making me biased towards touring.

I think you've missed out a very important word!

If so, I wholeheartedly agree with you.

Indeed, they normally reserve the plots for their own caravans, supplied to their own customers. That way they can regulate the quality and type of caravan that is used, as well as verifying its provenance. But there are physical barriers to overcome as well, such as hiring the crane, the low loader and any specific licences to transport it on public roads (wide loads etc.).

There must be a thousand at least. Lodges are a type of static. Parkdean own 24 parks throughout Britain but only 11 accept tourers, the others are static only. Park Resorts have 49 Parks but only about half accept tourers. Hoburne have 7 parks, 3 of which are static only.

Sorry, perhaps should have explained I meant lodges like this:

ie proper house sized. They don't accept any caravans there at all - because its a lodge retreat and not a caravan place.
