I'm currently on a contract with three which isn't due to expire until December. It's costing me £90 per month, including the £30 monthly charge, because I send a lot of text messages outside my allowance. I want to switch to an Orange contract, but port my number. Can anyone advise what the cheapest way to do this would be?
There are no price plans on three which would work out cheaper, I'd actually be better off paying both contracts (£30 to three and £35 to Orange) and not using the three contract.
Would it be possible for me to reduce my contract to the cheapest monthly charge then call the next day to request my PAC, cancel the contract and pay off the remaining 4 months?

You would have to wait until the change of tariff was implemented (after your new month had started) before asking for the PAC.
3 charge a £25 fee for changing tariff.0 -
are you able to use the vyke application on your three mobile?
https://www.vyke.com/merchantsite/login.c?view=mobile
Reports are you can send text messages free using vyke profile, so will just incur a 1p-2p charge in data per message, which may well be inclusive on your three tariff. Messages you send are stamped with your mobile number too, so nobody will know you are not sending a normal text.0 -
Thanks for the replies to date.
As I understand, Vyke can't be used on three mobile, because three don't allow you to use third party applications to connect. I would welcome any correction on this.
Regarding requesting my PAC, my new month starts on 2nd September. Would it be possible for me to call three this evening, reduce to a £15/month price plan and then call and cancel/request PAC on 2nd September?
Hopefully I should then only be charged £25 for changing plan, plus £60 for the four remaining months. I have "text 500" and "text 200" add-ons but presumably I would only need to pay those up until the date the contract stops, rather than pay these for the full four months.
£85 seems expensive to try to get out of the contract, but it should save me £200 over the four months (a better option might be to get treatment for my sms addiction)0 -
If you have access to the internet you could sign up to 18185.com. If you make a quick chargeable call from your mobile using them, then when you send texts from the website you can send them with your mobile phone number as the identifier at 1p a shot.0

Yes that should be fine.
To be on the safe side, cancel the add-ons when you request your PAC.0 -
Thanks Quentin, I'll call three this evening and see what they can do.
I've just noticed on the three web-site that it says
"The lowest value price plan you can move down to is one that has a monthly line rental of £25 per month (as specified by 3)."
Does anyone else have any experience of attempting to switch to three's lower priced plans?

I use Opera Mini Browser to connect to the net,
I presume Vyke will operate in much the same way (but then again i don't know the application)
Opera Mini Browser allows me free net access under my free 30meg data bundle. Never been warned/advised of anything - been using for several months now.
